Slowest... Download... Ever...

Post » Thu Mar 27, 2014 6:18 pm

Almost 11 hours now since starting the download, and I'm at 4%. The downloader cant seem to give me any more than 130kb/s despite my connection being much, much faster than that. What the heck is going on?

If the download rate stays this way, I wont have the thing ready for another week and a half, which means missing all of early access.

Not sure why that would be.

When I downloaded it the other day, it only took about an hour.

Check the settings on the launcher to see that unlimited download speed is checked

In the launcher open settings and see what your "maximum download speed" is at, i dont know if it could be this but i have mine at unlimited and i downloaded in 9,7 mb/s last time i patched.

At 11 hours that's about 3 times longer than it took to download the beta client 3 or 4 betas ago. It seems pretty odd at your end, I admit, but have no idea why it would behave like that.

Your modem isn't capped, is it? I ask because I had a buddy of mine paying for "fast" internet, but his modem was capped at a lower speed so he was paying, but not getting the speed.

1 Mb/s = 125 KB/s. Are you measuring your internet speed in bits or bytes?

think i'm measuring right, anyways it's not even staying at a constant 130kb/s, it constantly keeps dropping back down to 30 or so for no apparent reason.

Took me 4 days to download the last beta :) I'm just hoping this patch isn't another 6GB...

Ok, so the time warner plan I have is their 29.99$/month one, which is 3Mbps. If 1Mbps is 125kb/s, then I should be getting closer to 375kb/s, not the 30-130 fluxuating amount that I've been getting since starting this download. Reset my modem and router and everything, but nothing is improving the speed. I'm going to give time warner a call today and see what's going on.

at 4% done I'm still showing that there's 17,593.12 Mb left to download, so... yea...

That's the sort of time I was expecting the download to take after hearing what some people had said on the forums. So it really surprised me that it only took about an hour.

I was getting 6 - 8 mB/s, then there was a patch that finished at 31% of the download, the patch speed was 65 mB/s then within about 10 seconds of the patch finishing the download had risen to 66%. So I guess as it was patching it was also carrying on downloading the main part. At 66% it went back to 6 - 8 mB/s until near the end when it patched again at about 84 mB/s.

Mine seems slow today. Having to install from scratch on a new PC. I guess it is just because everyone else is downloading and checking for updates. As long as it is sorted by Sunday it will be fine.

Hopefully, I'm going to be pissed if the download rate stops me from getting in by early access, lol.

Downloading at 26mb/s~

Restart your router, open ports, etc.

But the most likely culprit may be your firewall, it depends on the software, some say they allow certain traffic while in fact they are not, same thing for router firewall btw.

Then it comes down to location and technical issues from server>>you.

I would do a speedtest at speedtest.net just to see the results. It should pick the closest server to you to test against.

Also, cable is a shared medium....you share a certain bandwidth with all the people in your "zone" you are not guaranteed to get your full bandwidth. (unless you are on a business account like me :). Also it may not be you at all. All it takes is a misbehaving router someone along the route from your pc to the ESO server.

When I downloaded before the last beta, it was nowhere near the 25mB/s I have. It averaged around 400KB/s

Does your ISP use traffic shaping in the day? If they do, they may be slowing you down during peak hours. Try after 11pm. A lot of isps in the UK employ this measure to stop serial downloads. Just a thought.

Edit
If you have any mates that have downloaded it. Just copy the folder onto a USB stick (32GB) and copy over.

Forgot to say. I'm in the UK with BT infinity which is a 70mbit connection (7MB per second) and I got roughly 6meg a second on each and every download of a patch. If you are in Texas then you should be getting far better than that.
