Will there be enough loot on Sunday?

Post » Sat Mar 29, 2014 8:19 pm

Tonight I watched a couple of hours worth of gameplay videos. During one of them, the player remarked that when you kill a creature in a dungeon or enter an area to discover loot, if there is another RL player there, they can take that loot before you get it. Boss loot is just given directly to the player, but random loot can be taken by another player and has to respawn.

The player in the video then noted that if a dozen or so people are all creating their characters at the same time, they could pick the chargen dungeon clean before you even got a chance to get to the loot.

Now, that's "normal" circumstances. Imagine Sunday at 7:00 a.m. EST. Imaging 1000 people (or more) all trying to create their characters at the same time. Even if you have three different alliances, that's a lot of people all pouring through the chargen dungeon at once.

Since I didn't play the beta, I'm not sure this is accurate - so I'm asking beta players? Was this your experience?

well on kills if you help out with the kill you would loot your own dead body per se. the other person would loot his stuff.

as far as chests go thats usually first come first serve.

No, it's not like that. Barrels, crates, etc. are instanced to the player. Everyone who contributes to a kill will be able to loot the boss. The only thing there is competition over is locked chests and resource nodes, and they respawn pretty quick.

Played 4 beta weekends, I suggest not to worry too much about it.

Its all relative.

My only advice is, if you see a large group of people running in one direction, turn around and go the other way.

I've done a few characters through the intro, never had a problem. Mobs always seemed to respawn fast.

And my gut says alot of ppl will choose to skip the tutorial, also relieving some congestion.

Okay, so obviously this has got me a bit worried, so I just want to make sure I understand this correctly:

So for kills you help out with: you can't just stand and watch, you to inflict some damge on the enemy. Then you get "a share" of the loot or your own loot. And do all players get the same? So three people kill a boss - do they get the same thing, or 1/3 of a loot package?

Again, going for understanding: three players enter a room. One crate. Each players gets their own random loot from the crate? No respawning? Correct?

you and 3 people kill a boss you get your own loot. the other guy gets his own loot, the other guy his all totally random.

couldnt say on crates and stuff i always been into barren dungeons.

locked chests are first come first serve

For kills you help out with, loot is instanced to each player. They don't all get the same thing, but they all get a random item from that mob's loot list -sometimes that's nothing, though. Rest assured, you don't share loot. There's not always something on a mob for each person, but it's not because the loot from the mob went to someone else. You can see the same thing occasionally from mobs you kill all by yourself. Sometimes, they just don't have anything at all.

For barrels, crated, night stands, etc. That is also instanced to each player. Again, sometimes the container doesn't have anything at all, and shows as empty before you get there. That can even be different for people that arrive at the same time. If you watch some of the videos, like QGN's for example, they explain how a barrel is empty for one of them, and has something for the other. They are instanced to each player.

As mentioned, the only things that aren't instanced, which you have to compete for, are chests and resource nodes.

There is a ton of content and loot. Here is a piece of advice, especially in this linear game.. Enjoy the world and stories, slow down let everyone rush you by and you will have a ton of loot and chests all to yourself.. Most people will be rushing through the voice overs, books etc, if you really take your time and enjoy the lore the characters and atmosphere..

1. You will enjoy this game 10 times more and it won't feel so linear.

2. You will not have to worry about crowds..

3. You will get to enjoy a more polished game in the end, for the development team will be making massive updates and changes the first few months.

If you rush through the game, well you will be standing in line for that boss, that chest etc... Also you begin to feel well disappointed and bored with the sandbox zones. If you adventure outside the quest lines too much, you will also begin to out level the intended rail system.. So what ends up happening even on the main quest line is you are way above the level of your line and it feels way too easy the reward for it is way to weak or meaningless to you at that point. This is what happens in a linear type system.. Now I am hoping they fix this more but time will tell, as it stands now if you adventure outside of rail system you will out level the zone or quest lines quickly and then it ruins the overall effect drastically.

Most importantly have fun...

When I last played a weekend beta, found most chests in the outskirts of the sector I was in - of course it was late in the game, only hours before the beta ended, so that might have played a role.

I'll just wait until everyone has went to sleep before I start playing. After my experiences with multiple MMO launches, I've learnt to not be part of the "first hour zerg". It's a very traumatising event that has a lot of potential to make someone quit the game.
