Campaign Names?

Can someone explain what these Campaign Names are, are they essentially PvP servers separate from the Megaserver we play in for PvE?

Thanks,

- Hyris

"Early Access begins this weekend! Are you looking forward to your first steps in Cyrodiil? We’re preparing the battlefield right now, and before you know it you’ll be on the front lines, driving the enemy forces from their keeps in massive conflicts. PvP is even more fun when you can organize ahead of time, so we’re releasing the names of the North American and European campaigns that will be open when Early Access starts. Each name represents two campaigns, one on the NA megaserver and one on the EU megasever:
Bloodthorn
Scourge
Chrysamere
Auriel's Bow
Wabbajack
Volendrung
Skull Crusher
Dawnbreaker
Goldbrand
Hopesfire
Choose yours and get ready to charge into the fray during Early Access! You can start participating in the Alliance War at level 10, and at that time you’ll be able to select your home campaign. Find out where your guild and friends will be fighting and join up with them! You can become a guest in other campaigns, and you can change your home campaign later for Alliance Points if you wish.
Don’t forget that you can still pre-order to get your Explorer’s Pack and Early Access—it’s not too late yet. We can’t wait to see you in Cyrodiil."

The campaign names are the different PVP areas, that anyone can join once they reach level 10. They are all on the same megaserver, but when you enter Cyrodiil, you enter one campaign at a time, so they are a way to separate the PVP population from each other. You will pick a home campaign, which will be the only campaign that contributes to your alliance standing, etc. You can however join a different campaign as a guest, but actions there will not affect your home campaign. Also, you can change your home campaign by spending alliance points (currently 15000, but later will be changed back to the standard 100000).

Just to add a note to this very good explanation. I think they released the names of the campaigns just so guilds can coordinate before launch. Not being able to see the populations of any of these campaigns (of course since server isn't even turned on) and making an official website update post about it feels like someone at ESO just had a spare minute on their hands and got into the control room and started pushing buttons. If you're not in a guild already, there isn't much need to ponder over the campaign list until you're level 10.

Chances are Auriel's Bow is going to be the most populated server, which sounds good however be aware that queuing is very likely. Going off the community responses to the list it sounds like Wabbajack is going to be fairly popular just because of the name, which is nice to know because that was my server of choice in the beta and the population wasn't all too great. It's also worth noting that if you're looking for RP-PVP then Scourge is set to be the communities choice for communing.

After I reach level ten and after the 30 days of *free* time is over, I am planing to ask on the main forum which one is the best for RP - PVP. It is too early to tell now.

All of the campaign names are legendary artifacts from each of the elderscrolls games.

Why they chose to name them this is beyond me.

It's a weird nod though. It's more of an http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lk6h1sAa871qzbl7f.gif

Mainly because it makes no sense.
