What's your favourite 'Popular' song?

Post » Sun Mar 30, 2014 4:42 am

So, this might be an interesting spin on these music threads. 'Popular' is subjective, so I'll help give an idea of what I mean. You can pick an 'overplayed' song or a song that's just transcended into culture. It doesn't matter if it was popular or still is, it just had to have a 'familiarity' at some point in the song's existence.

For me, I'd say one of my favourite songs (Also by one of my favourite musicians) is 'http://www.youtube.com/watch?annotation_id=annotation_802668&feature=iv&src_vid=YkADj0TPrJA&v=Qt2mbGP6vFI' by Phil Collins.

What's your favourite 'popular' song, CD?

(Edit: Though this should go without saying, please, if you intend to post a link to the song, make sure the language of the video is within the rules of BGSF's language regulations.)

I don't listen to so-called "popular" songs because I actually have good taste in music.

It doesn't need to be bubble gum pop music. It just had to have a 'major hit' status type of ordeal. Doesn't matter if it was a hit here (US), UK, Europe, Asia, it just needs to have been a major success of a song.

Of course there's more, but those two stand out the most.

Of course I was still in my early twenties back then. God, I'm old now.

The Nightingale Kratima by Koronis was pretty mainstream, but only 11th century kids remember it. I like tons of popular stuff, though. Lorde, Avicii, Lady Gaga, Of Monsters and Men, some of that pretentious hipster indie [censored], and so on.

I dunno if I have a particular favourite, but today it's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9miT-Qf_cfw, just because it's so stupidly cheerful.

Probably Rio by Duran Duran. I was huge fan of theirs in general back in the day.

As popular songs go, it would be the Unicorn song that was done by the Irish Rovers. Not sure of the actual title. Otherwise, my favorite songs are by Man O' War and Weird Al Yankovic. Neither are particularly popular, but have enough of a following to keep going.
