Playing Oblivion on PC for first time, mods?

Post » Sun Mar 30, 2014 6:14 pm

I love the Elder Scrolls series, but after playing Skyrim fully modded for the PC with amazing graphics and many nice tweaks I have been thinking I would like to go back and play Oblivion with mods. I played Oblivion when it came out on the 360, but never for the PC.

If you where going to play the game again on a new system, what mods would you install? Of course I want it to looks as good as possible, so graphical mods are always nice. But while I tried to stay away from to much game changing mods for Skyrim, I am thinking it might be nice to play with some more expansive mods for Oblivion since I have already played the vanilla version before.

Is there some good mod for Oblivion like this? My personal taste is that I like very hardcoe immersive experiences (I prefer to play without hud, highest difficulty, no quicktravel or potion bashing, also my prefered build is often archer/conjurer), so if there are some mods that make the difficulty more demanding and harsh and the combat maybe more fierce I would really like that! (Maybe Demon Soul style) Or anything at all that make the game more interesting.

There seems to be so much stuff out there so its hard to not get confused, any suggestions?

First things first: use a mod manager. I recommend using Bash. It's the best one for managing Oblivion and, arguably, the best one period. That's debatable but it is the best with Oblivion. NMM is incompatible for the format used in Oblivion and OBMM cannot uninstall mods cleanly. If uninstall a mod, you need to reinstall every other mod. Bash doesn't have these issues and has a lot of other nice features. Don't be taken aback by the reports saying it's difficult to learn. At the most basic level, it's as simple as putting the archive in the right place and clicking install in Bash.

And since you ask for more stuff to keep it interesting, you may find this of interest: http://wiki.theassimilationlab.com/QuestList/The_Quest_Lists
