Alternative way to High Hrothgar

Post » Mon Mar 31, 2014 4:33 pm

I remember in my first playthrough, around the time that you get assigned to go to High Hrothgar, I followed an alternative path to the monastery. For some reasons I didn't see the 7000 steps and I travelled back to Orphan Rock, and I scaled the mountain. It was extremely hard, finding creatures and stuff. I came across a dungeon with some bandits and a giant frostbite (or wounded, dunno) inside. When I was getting closer and closer to High Hrothgar I came across a wispmother, which annihilated me and led me to abandon my quest, when I found about the 7000 steps.

I tried searching the wikis but I didn't find nothing, can somebody enlighten me on what this path is told, and if it is supposed to be secret or something?

If it's the alternate route I'm thinking of, It doesn't take you straight to High Hrothgar, but gets you to Ivarsted a lot quicker from the Whiterun area than following the road,

Spoiler
East of Whiterun, head south from the road right about where the Ritual Stone is. Follow the path up the mountain behind the Stormcloak Camp. You should end up at the river just south of Ivarsted by the troll cave.

Idk why but I find this hilarious

But anyways, if you want to scale the mountain from a different direction, just buy a horse (or steal one) and climb up the mountain with it - gravity doesn't apply to them :P

I never knew about this path until a few months ago, nice little path instead of the regular way.

I found it on my last Xbox character which was January 28th.

There is a 3rd way to High Hrothgar. just pay 1,000 septims for a horse and scale the mountain like a boss.

Steal a horse from the Falkreath Storm Cloak camp and head up the mountain close to where the two soldiers are patrolling, you end up close to where the frost troll is. :)

Orphan Rock/Skybound Watch can be used as a shortcut to High Hrothgar.

Spoiler
The path should take a character past the Frost Troll encounter. Using the Interior of Skybound Watch is an option for a PC User with Mods that punish a character for exposure to the Elements. Skybound Watch will just punish the character with Opponents instead of Exposure. A Horse can make reaching The Throat of the World possible, but I have had characters sporting the Notched Pickaxe without a Horse or a Shout.

She'll be scaling down the mountain when she comes..

Anyway! I love the hidden routes in this game that most of us mountain scalers never even see. Like this one route to Windhelm that I took from Whiterun when I very first played he game. Does anyone know the name of it? I miss that place.. It was like a snowy valley, so beautiful.

I didn't, however know that there was another route up the Throat of the World.

Is it the path that leads North from before Honningbrew Meadery, past Whiterun, past the Lorius Farm? The Road makes a T in the Pale and Windhelm is to the right. The path goes past Nightgate Inn, through Anga's Mill, then follows the River into Windhelm.

I have made the same trip but stayed to the left side and narrowly avoided a certain Dragon Priest by a Word Wall, but the rest of the trip is very scenic, but Gallows Rock and Morvunskr can be found by staying too far left, and there is a chance of encountering a second Frost Troll.
