Looking for help running Morrowind on my laptop

Post » Tue Apr 01, 2014 10:38 am

I have a Dell laptop that I bought in 2010 and I am hoping to play Morrowind with it. However it seems there is one issue standing in my way. According to systemrequirementslab, I need a better video card. All I need is something good enough to run Morrowind. I don't need a high end product. However I can't seem to locate the type of video card that is required when I use google. The recommended video cards on systemlabrequirements site are all over $100 and more powerful than what I need. Again, I just need something good enough for Morrowind. Does anyone know where I can find this?

Edit: Sorry, this is the type of video card it says I need:

32 MB Direct3D Compatible video card with 32-bit color support and DirectX 8.1

And this is what it says I currently have:

Mobile Intel? 4 Series Express Chipset Family

That's the chipset and not your integrated video chip. But a 2010 Dell should have a good enough chip to run Morrowind. If you run dxdiag and tell it to Save All Information, it will put a text file on your desktop. Open that file and scroll down to the Display Devices section and look at Card Name. That's the video chip your system has.

I assume you run either Windows Vista or Windows 7 (Windows 8?) and if you do then there is no problem for you to install Morrowind, which means that the requirement for DirectX 8.1 is the lowest DirectX version you must have installed.

So I suggest that you try to install Morrowind and if that for an unknown reason doesn't work for you then give us a holler and we're here to help you out.
