Hearthfire wont start

Post » Tue Apr 01, 2014 10:26 am

I bought this a month ago and got no courier letter so uninstalled and reinstalled, still nothing.

Went online and researched how to start it, seems I was Thane in one of the cities so went to the Jarls and Stewards in the three cities Dawnstar, Morthal and Falkreath where its supposed to start in and did missions, still nothing even though in two I was made thane.

Have waited around in those three cities and done lots of missions for the jarls, stewards and the people...still nothing.

Neither the Jarls nor the stewards offer me land, its driving me crazy. Im level 22, with a follower, a house and steward in Whiterun. I have noticed lots more children running around but I have had no courier to tell me to buy land or adopt children.

How do I start this darn thing?

go to Falkreath, Dawnstar or Morthal and speak to the Jarl. you don't need the letter to start the DLC.

You just have to wait a few days (in game), travel some cities, do some quests and the courier will find you. You have to be at least lvl 9, but you don't have to be thane. The default Jarl of Falkreath will call for you using a courier. Maybe go and talk to the Jarl of Falkreath?

in order to adopt kids you have to kill Grelod the Kind at the Honorhall Orphanage in Riften

You should also see some different Random Encounters along the roads. Not sure if the house building has to start or not for that.

Oh and does the Jarl of Falkreath give you the option of buying a house? If so, click that and then you can buy a plot of land. to get kids, kill Grelod (in my post above)

try clicking on every dialogue option that they have.

The one you're looking for should be something like "My Jarl. is there *more words*"

On the main menu when you scroll down to add ons, does HearthFire come up?

He/ she shouldn't have to do those quests to get the letter, or the plot of land in Falkreath

Yes, it is installed, one of the first things I checked, see original post...uninstalled and reinstalled as well. Yes, as I said, I have done all the quests for all the Jarls and stewards.

Btw, I am playing it on my ps3, the trophy info comes up with the trophies to get for Hearthfire, and it comes up on my installed list.

Make a new character and quickly get to level 8 or 10 (whatever the level requirement is) and see if you get a letter from the Jarl of Falkreath.

Again, idk if you did this, but in order to adopt ANY children, you must first kill Grelod the Kind in Riften orphanage

Btw I can't adopt children till the quest starts. Also I bought the game in New Zealand where I live but downloaded the DLC from my US account. Will this be the problem?

Now you get where I'm coming from...

Well, obvious thing to check for is that you are playing on the same player account that you bought the DLC on (so, if you bought HF for a profile and then made a new one, you would have to buy HF again for that profile). It treats each Xbox/ PS profile like a different person.
