Thousand Monkey Isles

So how much do we know about the Thousand Monkey Isles and the Tang Mo? I was just randomly thinking of this and just realized we know almost nothing of the lands outside Tamriel. Is there a lore reason that no Tang Mo has ever been in Tamriel? Akavir in general is very interesting, I would love to see more lore on the Tsaesci as well. Or the so called Snow Demons of Kamal. Not to mention the other things we have seen in the games like the Sload and the Dreugh, the lore says they are intelligent creatures with societies. Not much more.

The best response you'll get from this lore community on anything related to Akavir is:

"We don't want to have any more lore revealed about Akavir"

There's kinda a forced agreement here that the mystery of Akavir is its only interest.

In sharp contrast to http://www.reddit.com/r/teslore/, who've got some interesting (albeit, in my personal opinion, very unlikely) theories relating to it (not going to link to anything specific, since I'm really not sure where to start. Just go back a few pages and you'll see a whole horde of them).

The first rule about Akavir is that we don't talk about Akavir.

More accurately, people aren't afraid to theorize about Akavir, it'd culture, and its significance. What people on the forum are typically against is actually going to Akavir (ie learning truths about Akavir). Supposedly this would ruin the mystique. If done well, this needn't be true, but I think there has been a loss of faith that the devs will ever pull of something that delivers the mystique as ably as Morrowind again. Just my presumptive two-cents.

What purpose does Akavir even serve for the lore/story...? Especially if it will never be touched on. Even the Forerunners - the Halo franchise's biggest secret - played directly in to the stories, while Akavir does nothing, IMO.
