New player needs advice

Hi guys.

I purchased Oblivion GOTY Edition last year when it was on Steam sale for 6€, but I have really gotten into it few weeks ago. I created my own character with custom class. I wanted to create him Thief like, but I haven't looked at premade class so I created it from my own mind. I belive I have chosen these main attributes : Agility, Speed and Luck ( If you can choose only 2 then it was Agillity and Speed, I am not sure ). My Major skills are : Athletics, Blade, Light Armor, Marksman, Security, Sneak, Speechraft. I am currently level 22 and have completed Thieves, Fighters guild, KOTN and Dark Brotherhood questline. In MQ im at mission to go recover Emperor's armor from Sancre tor. Currently I'm slowly doing Allies for Bruma ( need Skingrad, Bravil and Leyawiin and I'm finished). I would need some advice how to enchant my armor and weapons ( I have Frostcrag Spire ). And one last thing : Is my build any good ?

Thank you for advice.

I find speechcraft, security, and athletics, to be particularly annoying to level, but to be so far in it would really be a waste to change now, but thats my opinion, as for enchantments, i never bothered with getting them...

If you've managed to reach level 22, and you're not having a terrible amount of difficulty dealing with enemies, you have a good "build." Badly made characters usually show up in the teen levels, as they start running into the tougher enemies. And it looks good to me.

I usually enchant clothing/armor to fill in weaknesses. I will fortify Magicka/Intelligence for casters, and I will fortify Strength to improve carrying capacity. Anything that absorbs or resists magical attack is good, too. And if you have items with Reflect, that's really good.

For a melee weapon, I like combination enchantments. An example would be Weakness to Magic 5 seconds, Soul Trap 5 seconds, and Absorb Health. Such a blade will make the enemy transfer more and more health to you with each hit, and then capture his soul (assuming you have a gem or Azura's Star) when he dies. Nasty weapon.

If you have made it to level 22 and you have completed all of those questlines, then your build is certainly very good.

To enchant your equipment, you need soul gems filled with souls, access to an enchanting altar, some gold to pay for the enchantments, and you need to have the basic magic effects in your spellbook, with the ability to actually cast the spells.. I.e, you must have a high enough level in the school of magic to cast the particular spell, and enough magicka to be able to cast it.

Note that ANY spell with the effect will make it available to you. There are some effects that are intentionally not available at enchanting altars.

Some good basic choices for enchanting weapons are the three elemental damage types (shock, fire, frost), damage health, absorb health, and drain health. You can also combine multiple enchantments on a single weapon (like fire and shock damage in the same weapon).

Some good choices for enchanting armor are the elemental shield spells (Fire Shield, Frost Shield, Shock Shield) since they provide both a resistance to that element AND add to your effective armor rating. However, if your base armor rating is already at 85%, increasing it further with additional enchantments doesn't help. You could also go with Fortify Attribute or Fortify Skill enchantments to boost your abilities, keeping in mind that most skills don't get any benefit by boosting them over 100, except Athletics and Acrobatics.
