Music or look up how bad people really got it in third world countries. Then, my problems become trivial.

I suffer from chronic depression. A couple of fhings that I did that helped a lot was cut out all the sad things from my life. For example I dont watch the news, I dont read the news on Yahoo. And I cut evey negative person on my Facebook friend list, no matter who they are.

Im not kidding. Those two simple things did wonders for me. I have no idea whats going on in the world but im a lot happier.

I feel it is important to not neglect the little things. Shower, make the bed, talk to family, friends etc. Usually helps lift me somewhat out of the rut of ruminations.

Go for a walk and tune in with nature, unless it's [censored] cold outside, then don't. I'm never depressed, but whenever I feel down I just take a shower, grab a mug of coffee, listen to some of my favorite jazz/classical music and feel at peace when I look out through the window. It's not a lot, but it's one of those small things that helps me. Bonus points if it's raining.

One thing ive noticed from the answers so far is that they are recommending little things. They may seem trivial but they really do help.

Yea this.

The sun does wonders for the mood. Taking a walk through your local park or just sitting in a yard will make you feel better.

I don't know anything about depression mind you but, going on walks helps me feel better

I just deal with it, listen to music, play games, draw, write, watch a movie... that's pretty much all I do every day. Especially the writing (and to a lesser extent, drawing) helps me through it, I write it away (which is probably the reason why my stories tend to be so gruesome with lots of gory details and questionable topics :P)

It may depend on the reason for your depression as well, but in general two things I know that help are listening to music and exercise. I definitely recommend both. I know what it feels like and those two as well as a good night's sleep can definitely make a person feel a lot better.

I'd agree to this. A good shower always makes me feel good or perhaps a little cleaning around the place. A good way to lift the spirits for me is to not look like a mess and not live in a mess.

I myself used to get depressed some times back then, but these days I'm actually pretty happy with how things are going.

One thing with Depression is the longer you have it the more it digs in and the harder it is to get rid off, i will tell one simple thing its something i learnt along time ago, what one person tells you works for them wont necessarily work for you, but in saying that dont stop yourself from trying it, the answers from professionals that ive been told is work is the best cure, it can be in some cases, but it can also make you worse if you have a crap job and work people you dont like, and also its generally the answer to get you to work rather than taking up the time of medical professionals, relaxation worked for me for awhile and then i got used to it and now it doesnt, for me generally im a fighter and i want to find a solution rather than let it beat me, but the cause is something that is impossible to fix, but keep yourself occupied, the more you dont do anything the more it has a tendency to hold on, but one of things that helps alot is other people who understand and help not hinder or criticise or make light of a serious situation.

I've been depressed, it just takes a lot of time to heal from it. Hitting the gym or going for a walk will help you shed the lethargy that comes with feeling depressed. The more enthusiastic your moments, the better you will start to feel. Try also to get a different daily routine routine.

If it's sever depression you might need to seek a doctor and get on some anti-depressants, for just a case of the slums find a hobby or something to get your mind off of what's making you depressed.
