Dont you feel kinda depressed when...

Post » Sun Apr 06, 2014 10:47 am

...you reach the point were you dont have many things to do? Its that phase were you have finished most good quests( forbidden legend, lost to the ages etc), completed almost all main questlines and having a level close to 70. I dunno but i ve played about a dozen characters and i ve never reached level 81. I find the end so depressing that i start a new hero

Nope. I roleplay so I don't do everything.

Each roleplay has a different ending and I never know when it is going to end.

Well, I don't feel depressed but when I find myself thinking about other builds when playing my current character I know that his days are numbered.

When I get to the point where I've run out of things to do in Skyrim, I usually just pop in another game. (NV, FO3, ESIV) I run new characters in those and return to Skyrim after a while. I could probably just alternate between those four games ad infinitum.

I tend to finish a given character's story (or run into bugs or get bored of being OP) by about the high thirties/low forties. My current character, I'm trying it a different way round. My plan is for her to do the MQ for base game and both main DLCs, CW (Stormcloak) plus CoW, at least some of the Companions (I suspect she may not become a full member, so to speak), and possibly Dark Brotherhood (can't decide, wasn't going to at first but I think her wife - Jenassa - is kind of rubbing off on her a bit). But she's currently somewhere in the mid 30s and has only done the Way of the Voice part of the MQ (i.e. first visit to Greybeards), Under Saarthal for the CoW, is just setting off to Fort Dawnguard after a bunch of vampires attacked HER CITY (she's the Thane of the Rift and a resident) and killed that nice Aerin chap, and is still doing radiant quests for the Companions (modded so you get a bunch of them before your Trial), oh, and the CW is up to just after the Battle for Whiterun as it all seemed a bit urgent and I couldn't really justify RP-wise her not pretty much getting on with the Jagged Crown and then the Battle.

Instead she's been wandering around, visiting Solstheim (but I've got that modded too so the Dragonborn MQ doesn't start until after the Horn of JW) doing side quests, becoming a Thane, fighting various animals, monsters and Thalmor gits, and most of all exploring. I've not completely banned myself from fast travel, but I'm trying to minimise it (I did quite a bit around level 30 and started to get bored so I'm cutting it back a lot again) so I keep finding interesting places I've never seen before. I'm also using iHUD so there's a lot less 'point self in direction of arrow, RUN!' I'm *really* enjoying myself, although I'm taking a break at the moment to play ESO.

(I think I probably picked this idea up off someone here, no idea who, but if you're reading this and have posted about playing this way, THANK YOU!)

I did notice this, that's why I took up DiD. If your character could be killed through a poor decision and you roleplay so limit the quests you take to only the in-character ones, the game lasts much longer and never loses that danger. Plus your character's story could end well before you'd planned...

I never do everything with one character, so not really no.

Same here. I see no point in having a character who has completed each guild questline. Seems uber-immersion-breaking to me.

I don't know if I could ever routinely play DiD but my last few characters have been a kind of gateway drug thing, where I've come across something that killed me more than three or four times in a row and I went 'okay, there's no RP way of backing out of this situation other than reloading to a much earlier save, I guess it ends here'.

Main one was a character who did nearly the whole Companions questline, except I had the Encounter Zones module of SkyRe live, which changes it so that many/most dungeons and the like are at a set level and obviously the person (people?) who made SkyRe made the fair assumption that you wouldn't be rushing through the Companions and getting to the last part of their storyline at level... I dunno, maybe 12 I was at? Not more than 20, for sure. I just died and died and died, even with AFT letting me bring my two followers along AND with two Shield-Siblings and a crossbow. So, I couldn't just reload a couple of saves back and go 'oh, you know what, I'll see you there in about 10 levels 3 weeks, okay?' so I just decided to end his story there. (I felt a bit less bad when I subsequently watched Gopher's LP where he did that quest and couldn't get through it (also with SkyRe) without

Spoiler
Hulking, I mean werewolfing, out.
)

Nor me, my first character I went down that path a bit (because I was only expecting to do one play through... ) but it just felt silly after a point. Llerethis will definitely only be doing the Companions *or* the DB, and I'm really not sure she'll do either (beyond the Trial, anyway). I do definitely want to complete the CoW, though, my first character I stopped playing shortly after leaving Mzulft (I think?) because she and J'zargo were close to overburdened with scrap metal, intended to go back but then I got an idea for a different character.

M'aiq is never depressed when running out of things to do in Skyrim.

M'aiq simply creates a new character. :)

Since M'aiq also plays on PC, he uses mods that adds quests, dungeons, locations, etc. to spice things up. :P

Well I role-play so no character (of 40 some) has ever gotten to level 50. Just not going to happen without meta-gaming and non-roleplaying.

I have thought about and tried DiD, but it only goes to help me realize just how bad of a player I am.

I do not mind when My character moves into Hjerim with Sofie, I usually keep at least four characters that can be picked up and played. If I am getting Skyrim Burnout, I now can play a Fully Functiononing FCOM/LAME/RBP Oblivion :starwars: I could head into the Mojave, or the Capitol Wasteland. I can even rig up both Beth Fallouts together

I know how you feel. I have a Jack-of-all-trades character and he's done almost everything and at level 58. What makes me even more depressed is that he actually won't be able to do everything, for I have a glitch where I cannot travel to Solstheim. I can travel there with another char, but it's not the same :(

...when I look in the mirror and realize the only person who will ever enjoy my company is standing before me? Yeah.

Oh, um... yeah. I knew what you meant... :D

No, this doesn't happen. Modding helps to keep the game fresh, so I kind of owe my continuous playing to modders. I would have shelved the vanilla game a while ago.

And try roleplaying and fanfic, I like the game because I'm a writer and I enjoy living my stories prior to recording them.
