My biggest problem with TESO is the world design.

The official forums are a mess so I'll use these ones..

I just don't like the world because it doesn't feel like a world, I just feel like I'm being teleported from map to map, there is no sense of a world, everything is so segmented. I wanna be able to run from one end to the other, but you can't you have to talk to NPCs or whatever else to be transported to the next location. Why isn't there a boat from the starter Island for example? WoW had one and it gave so much immersion, you felt a sense of place in the world. All the zone transitions were seamless, travel was in real time, but none of that with TESO. Even the SP games felt like a proper world, you had this one giant map you could zoom in and out of and run everywhere. In TESO the map is all segmented and I hate that.

I also don't like the quest design, you have no sense of freedom, you just follow a linear path WoW style and the world slowly gets smaller. In TES games I can run anywhere and do whatever I want at any time, you're just dropped in the world for you to explore, you can ignore the main story if you want.

The ironic thing is, the SP games feel more like worlds to me than the MMO, I just feel like they've turned TES into WoW, but worse because at least WoW had a mostly seamless world. I do not see how they expect people to pay monthly for it, at no part of my time in the game did I get the sense I was playing with other people. It is hard to tell who is an NPC and who is a player other than noticing ones with maps out or jumping around. I'm also not encouraged to group, no one was, even in PVP everyone just plays alone together....... where is the sense of the online portion other than all the bad stuff like lag and bugged quests etc?

I'm not sure I know what you mean.

I start in Davon's Watch, and I follow the road. I end up in Deshaan. I keep following the road and end up in Shadowfen. I'm not talking to anyone in between. I haven't done a lot of exploring, but I know I found Riften the same way. I can run anywhere I want, without touching the solo content/main quest. The critters and enemies do get higher in level; if you're still a low level running into a level 23 giant wasp is going to ruin your day. You might not live long, but you can go exploring anywhere.

I've had npcs run up to me with quests. I've done Fighter's guild quests. I've done some stuff for the mages.

I doubt this is the appropriate area...

...But I mostly agree with you. I played the Beta since the second wave of invites and even got invited to the Psijic testing servers. After the first 5 hourse of playing the game I realized just how linear it felt. Because of the leveling of areas, trying to explore beyond your level zone (an area a little more than half the size of The Rift in Skyrim) the toughness of the enemies makes enjoying yourself impossible. And then these level zones are connected by narrow passages.... Gahh! I feel like a fool for being excited for the game.

Apart from the world design mentioned above, I also dont care for their vision of the southern lands and Auridon.... just not alien enough.

And then there are the quests, the armor design, the architectural variety, the lifelessness of the cities, and the overall dullness of the lore.

Everyone is going to have their own opinion, of course. The cities do have a lot more activity now.

I'm having a ball, actually. There are harder enemies, and that makes being able to defeat them all the more fun for me. I have a dragonknight and a nightblade, and so far the only thing I'm missing is my smithed to the limit dragonbone bow.
