Agility as an attribute. How could it work?

Post » Sun Apr 13, 2014 4:27 am

Health was an attribute that aids all character types.

Stamina was essential for a warrior and magicka was essential for a mage. This left out the third style if play which is a rogue (thief etc). For a rogue the obvious choice of attribute would have been agity which wif effect the precision of body movement.

I have pondered often as to why rogues were not catered for in Skyrim. I have also tried to think how it would have work if they were accounted for equally to warriors and mages.

As it stands, leveling stamina doesn't really help any character type, so that probably needs to be reworked also(needing 1 stamina to power attack makes adding points to stamina instead of health or magicka fairly useless).

To add something like agility as a stat for rogue types(to be increased on level ups), certain things would need to be changed, like lockpicking and stealth, to make it so that boosting this stat provides some sort of advantage over another character that does not select it. Also with a more robust combat system that had more dodging/countering type actions, then something like agility could help there as well

Stamina does increase (by some amazing otherworldly way) a character's carry weight. You can also go from 2 power attacks to 5-6 power attacks. You can also run for longer distances, no matter how much you are carrying :)

As for Agility, or something similar for Rogue-types, That would be interesting to see.

Yep, Stamina is best for a rogue. Health is more appropriate for a warrior because they end up taking more damage, while thieves and assassins stay in the shadows and avoid getting hit in the first place.

The problem is stamina doesn't do anything for a Rogue - they usually are wearing light armor so they don't have heavy plating taking up all their carry capacity, and they tend to be loaded with light, high-value objects. And Stamina does nothing when stealthed, and has minimal effect on stealth combat (Fights are over before they begin, so you don't need to be able to spam power attacks), and you can't sprint while sneaking around or moving in any direction other than "Forward" (Meaning you can't use stamina to dodge enemy attacks).

The problem with "Agility" as a stat is that, unlike the other three, it doesn't sound like a depletable resource. which it needs to be.g

A simple absorb stamina 1 point enchant on a weapon or some soup and you can power attack infinitely. They didn't quite program stamina correctly to make it worthwhile to put a level up into

and the resto perk to restore stamina. Hit 'close wounds' and you're back to full

Yeah I had always assumed stamina was for rogue types. Because they were obviously going for:

Warrior, Health, Red

Mage, Magic, Blue

Thief, Stamina, Green

The sneak skill already manages and grants specific abilities for a rogue. And Agility in previous TES games only ever increased stamina and not much else (besides effecting the skills the attribute governed, and one unique aspect of it was that it granted less chance of staggering for the player). In fact, the attributes of previous TES games have only ever increased health, magic, and stamina as well (besides Personality, Speed and Luck); they were just separated specifically. In Skyrim, they decided to just bunch them up now.

I mean, unless they consider bringing back attributes such as Personality or Speed that actually effected movement and interaction with NPCs, the two things a rogue would specialize in. However, the attributes in Skyrim have turned into only having an effect on the three derived attributes (health, magic, stamina), unfortunately.
