New to these forums and I've only been gaming since Jan (I'm in my 30's...). I have skyrim (version 1.9.etc) and have played for enough hours to be a level 37. Using nexus, I've been using about 6 mods (better map, flora%fauna overhaul, etc) and I generally have good performance. But about a month ago I stopped being able to capture dragon souls upon killing them. At first I didn't think about it, just assumed I had forgotten some keyboard command, but now that I'm on Solstheim (can't remember spelling), I need dragon soul to unlock a shout in order to complete a quest. But when I kill a dragon now, nothing happens. I googled the question and found a few people with similar problem. But the suggested answers involved technical advice that goes above my little computer-illiterate head. I mean, I was very proud of myself for using Nexus and installing mods- but that was easy using the mod manager. Any fixes, and if so, where do I see the tutorials that will level me up to where I can actually understand the advice?

Similar problem with another quest in skyrim involving Delphine, who's supposed to explain something to me after I kill a dragon and capture its soul. I killed the dragon, and she does nothing other than say something like, "wow I didn't think dragons really were here." The quest prompter just says i need to ask for explanations, but she won't give them.

Try installing the Unofficial Patches on the Nexus. There is one for the http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/19/?, one for http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/23491/?, one for http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/25127/?, one for http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/31083/? and one for the http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/31255/? *only install the patches for the DLC that you have*

Hopefully that fixes the bugs though you may need to load a save prior to Delphines quest if it does not work.

What Vaen say because: Installing the Unofficial Dragonborn patch fixes the soul absorption problem....

Actually: Dragonborn's changes to DragonActorScript.psc have now been properly merged with the fixes done in the USKP. Dragon soul absorbtion is now working 100% correctly.

Another workaround is: Try to load Dragonborn after USKP, as it could undo the fixes of USKP. If unsure, just let BOSS take care of the load order.

I appreciate replies, thanks. But they assume I know more than I know. I just checked modmgr and it shows that I have installed and am applying the unofficial patch 2.0.1. So in addition to that, I should also get the individual additions for dawnguard, dragonborn,hearthfire? and the High Res DLC? is there a specific order?

You said "only install the patches for the DLC that you have-" how do I find out how many that I have? I don't know exactly what patches means in this context.

I don't know anything about Boss, so I just checked and see it's freeware. Do I just install it and is it self-explanatory??

It's very recommended to install the Unofficial patches. In your case, just add the Dragonborn patch too. But i recommend to download all of them. !!!! (if you have all the DLC's...)

Here you can download all of them without subscription. !!!!

Installing the DLC's patches

=================

Extract the contents into your Skyrim\Data folder. The default location is C:\Program files\Steam\Steamapps\common\skyrim\data. There should be an ESP file, BSA file, and BSL file.

The BSL file is not necessary unless you have need to use the official archive.exe tool to examine the BSA contents.

If you have any mod's installed you should clean your files (load order) with Tes5edit. !!!!
