Do the dead deserve respect?

I'd like to weigh in here, We should honor the sanctity of the place out of respect of the families of the deceased, even moreso if the place contains those we don't know, as we do not know how that person's family wishes us to honor their beloved's memory. If it is someone whom we personally know's gravesite, then we can honor that person how that person wanted us to remember them, even if it involves a party, but do be mindful of other people grieving, but also do not be afraid of inviting them over to honor the memories of their beloved.

Eh, respect and respect.

I don't see any good reason to violate the graves of the dead.

But I don't think that just cause someone is dead we should suddenly ignore if someone was a bad person and praise them because "it is the right thing to do". I hate it when someone dies and a family member or friend who had regular problems with them suddenly get all teary eyed and say that it is a loss. Just because someone dies does not mean that they deserve more respect and that it is in bad taste to criticize who they used to be.

But onto the questions in the poll:

Is it worth the time, energy and cost to provide a 'proper' burial/cremation for a person after they have died?

It's up to the people that were close to the deceased to decide.

If someone dies without any close relaties? Cremate 'em if it's too much of a hassle.

Should burial sites (cemeteries, catacombs etc.) be quiet solemn places?

What else should they be? A place to party like in Revenge Of The Living Dead?

Cause that didn't turn out very well for those kids.

Respect for the dead is not for sake of the dead; it is for the sake of the living. It is because we recognize that they were once as we were, and we will someday be as they are. It is one of the things that makes us people, rather than animals.
