Localized Damage Preference

Post » Tue Apr 22, 2014 6:19 pm

Localized damage is where enemies react based on where they are "hit". Damage to their legs would slow them down or even cripple them. Damage to an arm might make them drop a weapon. An arrow to the face would be an instant kill. An arrow to the knee ... kidding!

Yes, although I would probably not enjoy it being applied to my character ;) I've been thinking of adding the mod that adds this, after watching Gopher's recent Let's Play episodes with it, it looks fun.

Yeah it would certainly add a degree of tension knowing that you could be crippled or instakilled as well. I have a few characters with starting health only to add to the suspense. Knowing I can be killed by 1 arrow or 2handed chop heightens the experience.

I think possibly I don't give myself enough credit, come to think of it, I have been playing with Frostfall for a while, and at first I ended up disabling it when I went anywhere *really* cold, but now I leave it on and just make sure I have plenty of supplies and keep an eye out for somewhere flat to make camp if I need to.

I think this is the mod Gopher uses http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/12615/? Locational Damage. Seems to work fairly well, from what I've seen.

Not really. Arrow to the face would insta-kill? I assume the same would apply to regular weapons. Even with a Full Helmet, they're done for. A facemask isn't going to stop a Warhammer to the head.

I kind of feel the same for the rest. The game is already stupidly easy. We wouldn't need these bonuses. It would just be a waste. If you just want it to be more realistic, understandable. But It would probably ruin gameplay, IMO.

If localized damage were in effect then bodkin arrows would be needed to pierce plate armor. In vanilla Skyrim you can one-shot kill ALOT of enemies while sneaking, but then all of their friends rush you and take multiple arrows without even flinching. I think it would make archery and combat much more technical/skillful.

Yes, but if they did it there'd be no need for HP so they need some hybrid, doesn't Fallout have something like that?

For realism, since I'm a roleplayer, I'd say yes. But when I'm playing Oblivion or some games where I play solely for the fun of completion, I wouldn't want it. Too easy.

Not necessarily, aiming for a headshot is pretty tricky, I think - not so much once you get the perks that let you zoom and slow time while aiming a bow, but I think it could potentially add more challenge (but also a higher reward for good aim - rather than having to pump three or four good arrows into some guy's face just because he's got a ton of Health).

Personally, I'd prefer "Location Damage" as a purely-aesthetic thing with killing/dead NPCs, sort of like in Fallout NV -- so you can headshot someone and their head explodes, or you can cut their corpse up once their dead; but rather than just have it as "headshot = instant kill" make it something that only triggers if the standard damage would be enough to finish them (so they'd basically fire like non-cinematic kill moves)

I'm voting no, because there isn't enough control over combat to make it work out right. Except maybe non-face headshots (Faces can take a lot of punishment)

Voted Yes, though i'm more of a 50:50. I would like damage to certain areas to slow/disarm ect, but instakills are just too op. Maybe enemies with no helmets on should take much more damage as opposed to those with helmets.

I guess I agree with you, a bit of challenging locational damage would be good, just no "load twenty arrows into your foe's skull to get him to half health".

Yes but no V.A.T.S as it would be horrible in a TES game.
