How often does Skyrim give you a silent CTD?

Post » Wed Apr 23, 2014 2:36 pm

I'll be playing Skyrim again soon and with the news of the memory block patch I'm super hopeful that it will be stable this time round. It used to be the most stable Bethesda game for me but the patches seem to have screwed something up and I found I was getting all these silent CTD's (no message, just straight back to desktop), based on youtube footage of the memory block crash I suspect this was my problem.

Are silent CTDs the Skyrim norm or are they a definite sign of the memory block bug?

My Skyrim never CTDs. It does not even freeze on me. I don't have an extensive list of mods.

Have you used the Skyrim Performance Monitor (i think that is the name) to see if your getting RAM or VRAM issues? You might have too much of a texture load which is a common reason for a modded version of this game to have stability issues. Yes, this is assuming of course your mods are cleaned, the DLCs have been cleaned, your load order is correct, your Bashed/Merged Patch is built correctly and you have no save corruption.

I don't get silent CTD's, freezing is not normal, I tend to look after my mods with Wrye Bash, TES5Edit and BOSS (with some manual re-ordering).

Over 100 mods, moderate Laptop specs.

I used to get a CTD every 20 hours of gaming or so. But then I switched from Windows XP to Windows 7 64-bit and haven't had a single one.
