Hi guys, I'm from Russia, so sorry for my english. In this topic, would like to touch upon the existence of elements of monotheism or proto-monotheism in the ideology of different races and cultures of Tamriel.
This is a small sketch of my comments and references to TES books (or dialogs and etc).
I apologize in advance if these things have already been explored and I do repetition.
1.Yokudan cosmogonic myth
?Satak was First Serpent, the Snake who came Before, and all the worlds to come rested in the glimmer of its scales. But it was so big there was nothing but, and thus it was coiled around and around itself, and the worlds to come slid across each other but none had room to breathe or even be. And so the worlds called to something to save them, to let them out, but of course there was nothing outside the First Serpent, so aid had to come from inside it; this was Akel, the Hungry Stomach. Akel made itself known, and Satak could only think about what it was, and it was the best hunger, so it ate and ate. Soon there was enough room to live in the worlds and things began. These things were new and they often made mistakes, for there was hardly time to practice being things before. So most things ended quickly or were not good or gave up on themselves. Some things were about to start, but they were eaten up as Satak got to that part of its body. This was a violent time.
Pretty soon Akel caused Satak to bite its own heart and that was the end. The hunger, though, refused to stop, even in death, and so the First Serpent shed its skin to begin anew.? © http://www.imperial-library.info/content/monomyth
* Akel came inside from Satak
* Functionally, Akel was a part of Satak as his Stomach
* At the beginning of the stomach was not hungry and Satak did not eat itself
* Akel appeared as hunger after from Satak
* Satak is not dead because "he is a force so prevalent" :
?Perhaps it is easier for mortals to envision change than perfect stasis, for often Anuiel is relegated to the mythic background of Sithis' fancies. In Yokudan folk-tales, which are among the most vivid in the world, Satak is only referred to a handful of times, as "the Hum"; he is a force so prevalent as to be not really there at all.?
2. Altmeri cosmogonic myth vs. The author of Monomyth opinion's
?Anu encompassed, and encompasses, all things. So that he might know himself he created Anuiel, his soul and the soul of all things. Anuiel, as all souls, was given to self-reflection, and for this he needed to differentiate between his forms, attributes, and intellects. Thus was born Sithis, who was the sum of all the limitations Anuiel would utilize to ponder himself. Anuiel, who was the soul of all things, therefore became many things, and this interplay was and is the Aurbis.? © http://www.imperial-library.info/content/monomyth
* The author of Monomyth says that there is always twin forces, although for Altmeri myth the Sithis is nothing more than a synthetic idea and the force required for Anuiel
* In the beginning all was and is Anu
* Certain parallels with Yokudan cosmogonic myth
* Furthermore the author of Monomyth is mistaken when he writes that Gray Maybe exists in the middle between Anuiel and Sithis when really Anuiel and Sithis inside Gray Maybe:
?Anuiel is the Everlasting Ineffable Light, Sithis is the Corrupting Inexpressible Action. In the middle is the Gray Maybe ('Nirn' in the Ehlnofex).
...
Note that Tamriel and the Mortal Plane do not exist yet. The Gray Maybe is still the playground of the Original Spirits.?
3. Cyrodilic The One (and some nordic All-Maker)
* Fanari Strong-Voice said that:
?Also, like the Nords of old, we embrace the All-Maker. We do not worship the nine gods of the Empire.? © http://content3.uesp.net/oblivion/cs/cslist.php?game=sr&formid=0xDB0206b3
* Symmachus said that:
?"The Temple of the One," he identified as they passed it, an ancient Nordic cult which Tiber Septim had revived.? © http://www.imperial-library.info/content/real-barenziah
* Moreover, it is a very popular cult and its Archbishop speaks on behalf of all the deities of the Empire (Eight and Shezarr):
?Calaxes, though not in line for succession, had been given the Archbishopric of The One: a powerful position in the Imperial City, and indeed over all Tamriel where that religion is honored. Whispering began immediately that Calaxes believed that the Gods were angered with the secular governments of Tamriel and the Emperor specifically. ? © http://www.imperial-library.info/content/lady-benochs-words-and-philosophy
* MK also says that:
?Some of the Order’s precepts and ideas do (or did) flourish in the beginnings of the Alessian Order, the Temple of the One in Cyrodiil, most Maruhkati sects (including the Selectives, though they would deny it), Ancestral-Mothism, and, most famous of all, the Mages Guild.? © http://www.imperial-library.info/content/concerning-psijic-order-and-psijic-endeavor
* What can unite Alessian Order/Temple of the One/Maruhkati sects with Psijic teachings? Ancestor worship, and one more important detail. What? Here:
?Practioners of the Old Ways say that there are no Gods, just greater and lesser spirits.? © http://www.imperial-library.info/content/overview-gods-and-worship-tamriel
?These sentiments led to an increasingly abstract and unknowable depiction of a Single God. The Alessians were wise enough to realize that they had to incorporate the ancient polytheistic elements into their new religion for it to find a wide acceptance. The divine aspects worshipped by the various humans and Aldmeri were recognizable in the guise of the myriad saints and spirits of the evolving Alessian canon.? © http://www.imperial-library.info/content/pocket-guide-empire-first-edition-cyrodiil
* In addition it is known that:
?The prophet Maruhk's teachings both brought identity to Cyrodiil, codifying the pantheon most civilized Tamriellians worship to this day? © http://www.imperial-library.info/content/pocket-guide-empire-third-edition-seat-sundered-kings-cyrodiil
* The One can not be the Akatosh because the priest in the Temple of the One - Jeelius blesses the Champion of Cyrodiil constantly on behalf of Arkay what may be normal if the faith of the One is veneration abstract and unknowable Single God and blessing on behalf of which may not always be clear in contrast to the blessing on behalf of Arkay (see http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Jeelius and http://content3.uesp.net/oblivion/cs/cslist.php?game=ob&formid=0x00024e0a)
* Probable Cyrodilic origin faith in Single God could be explained from this fragment Song of Pelinal:
?... and left you to gather sinew with my other half, who will bring light thereby to that mortal idea that brings [the Gods] great joy, that is, freedom, which even the Heavens do not truly know, [which is] why our Father? © http://www.imperial-library.info/content/song-pelinal
Pelinal "emerged into the world like a Padomaic" because there is a question who can be the father for him and gods of Heavens at the same time.
