Merchant "infinite" Gold

Post » Wed Apr 30, 2014 8:36 am

So I recently installed Oblvion to my pc.. Installed some mods: elven map redux; bt mod; illumination within; new loading screens; new video menu;

Also some dlc's : shivering isles; knights of the nine; thieves den; spells tome; mehurnes razor; vile lair; wizard's tower;

Not that the mods or the dlc have anything to do with my problem but still..

So my problem is, any merchant I come across has "infinite gold". Whenever I sell something the merchants gold should decrease, but it doesn't! I know it's kinda cool, because I don't have to worry about not selling alll of my stuff. But I want to play the game as even as possible and not with cheats..

Can anyone explain or solve this problem? Thanks!

Merchants never run out of money, so you can sell everything in the game one piece at a time to any merchant.

Unless you install a mod to change merchant gold to decrease and increase as you exchange goods, they will have infinite gold to spend as that is how it works in vanilla oblivion.

I recommend the mod called Enhanced Echonomy. You can find it on tesnexus.

Yep, this was one of my very first disappointments with Oblivion. I can still picture myself to this day staring at my computer screen, thinking, "No, this can't be true. Tell me this can't be true. This is just too lame." I was used to Morrowind, a game in which merchant gold properly rises and falls with each transaction. As AyumiFan says, http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/25078/? fixes this, if you play on PC.

Yep - the vendor gold listed is only the max amount they will pay for a single transaction. They have unlimited gold.

I think in Morrowind you had to wait 24 hours before the merchant's gold would restock. Which led you to doing things like buying some smaller items from the vendor to build up his cash, selling your big ticket items, and then waiting a day (or multiples) to sell back the first items you bought. Though the haggle process in Morrowind would let you buy something from a vendor and immediately sell it back to him at a higher price, so there was another "cheat" built into the game.

Luckily in Oblivion, I have found that once you get past the lower levels, gold becomes essentially meaningless once you have purchased a house of your choosing and own a horse. There aren't enough spells and training to buy to burn up the kind of gold you get from just normal selling of loot once enchanted items start showing up in the loot tables regularly.
