Noob questions about BOSS

Post » Sat May 03, 2014 9:45 am

Hello fellow modders,

I wasn't sure whether to post this in the BOSS thread however I didn't want to derail their productive technical discussions with silly questions.

The BOSS log gives me a whole bunch of relev delev advice for Wrye Bash, do I need to to tag all the relevant mods with these myself or does it happen automatically? What happens if I don't?

Also should I even be using BOSS, or is LOOT the new grand orderer of loads? Does it work with mod organiser? I have a feeling this has been asked a lot but I must have missed the answer in my browsing.

Thank you for your time, I am always happy to read and learn myself, so feel free to throw some abuse and possibly some helpful links my way if I'm the 50th idiot to ask these questions.

Soon to hopefully not be an embarrassing noob,

Spaceman

- boss will do that automatically

- I would advise you to go with Loot, but if you prefere boss, get boss. By the way, they both should work with mod organizer.

Excellent, thank you. Is there a reason you recommend LOOT? I confess after reading both their readme's I thought they kind of did the same thing. Does LOOT have a better process 'under the hood' or is it just a personal thing?

Loot sorts stuff based on what they currently edit.

The fact is that Boss sorts according to a list made by passionate people, but it takes time and the approach is not that "efficient".

Loot instead, anolyzes what the mod you've added tweaks, and based on that, it sorts your load order. It does all automatically; there are still some plugin that have to be sorted manually (not by you, but by Loot's creators on their personal list loot refers to everytime it is exectued), but these represent the exceptions. To be honest, Loot is amazing.

Anonimousone is right.

BOSS is the past, LOOT (previously known as BOSS v3.0) is the future. FYI, the same team is behind both tools.
