Popular Games that you could just never get into

Post » Sun May 04, 2014 6:16 am

what are some popular games (or franchises), that you were just never able to get into?

I gotta go with Dragon Age.. I played the first one for a few hours, but all I could keep saying to myself is "This is just a rip-off of Neverwinter Nights 2.. the combat is nearly Identical, and If I renamed this 'Arch Demon' 'The King of Shadows' I would have act 3 and the later part of Act 2 from NWN2"..

whaty are some popular games you could never quite get into, and why couldn't you get into it?

Morrowind. There are so many things I dislike about that game, despite it having interesting content. I can't play it.

Risen. According to Steam I played 9 hours. One day I stopped and I have no motivation to get back to it any time soon. Typically I'll put a game down for a bit and come back and beat it eventually (one of the reasons I dislike MMO's), but I do not have that feeling for Risen. Baldur's Gate as well unfortunately. I just got to it way too late.

I probably would've been right there with you had I not played the game when it first came out. The combat system alone bugged me back then but I got used to it and began to love the game. It's actually my favorite game of all-time. I think most of that is tied to nostalgia now, but I can start up a fresh character and play still.

Mugi could never get into Bioshock infinite. The game is just not for me. Bioshock one is the [censored] though.

Morrowind is my bane. I've tried playing it and...eh..Not for me. The lore of it all makes my head hurt a bit.

Team Fortress 2. I played it for about an hour and was so unimpressed and bored that I switched it off and never picked it up again.

Zelda : A link the past.

I played it up until the confrontation with the Wizard and then when I realized that they had just reskinned Hyrule, and sent me on an even bigger fetch quest, I turned it off.

Not a fan of Dead Space, Metal Gear Solid, God of War or Devil May Cry, either.

You got that far? I got to some ice cavern, bashed my head into a statue and coaxed a magic bee off of it and into a net, then hurled a fish out of water into a nearby pond and it paid me in rupees. I dunno, games with THAT much quirkiness and unexplained stuff really don't appeal to me. it just irks the [censored] out of me.

Dragon Age - Found it monumentally boring.

Borderlands - Just would not click.

Team Fortress 2 - Just not entertaining for me.

Same here.

Minecraft is another I can't play, it's like a glorified phone game to pass the time with tedious tasks.

Never was a fan of Halo either, highly overrated imo.

Hmm... Pretty much any Star Wars game (Since Rebellion), the X series, Age of Empires, the Final Fantasy Series, the GTA series, Madden (But I loved 2k sports on the Dreamcast. Go figure.), Dwarf Fortress, and, so far the Witcher, though I'm gonna give it another try soon.

Dishonored is another one. I loved Thief back in the day, but Dishonored, for all its similarities, wasn't anywhere near as fulfilling for me. Bioshock. Always felt like System Shock 2 with all the cool parts removed. Oh, and despite loving the first one, I never did get into Half-Life 2. Probably played it too late.

To be honest, I could go on for days.

I'd say Planescape: Torment. Even though I did manage to finish it, it felt like a chore, and when wondering whether I should play the opposite way a second time, my mind replied 'hell naw!'. Must have been my imagination becoming exhausted from having to put the voice acting into all the dialogue I had to read, and aged D&D combat being a PITA in general (I just played in very easy mode because screw it). That probably doesn't speak good of me, an spoiled cashul gamer who has to be given everything chewed and all that...

Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 I actually liked them much more (though also played in very easy, cause... :teehee:), but tragically, after uninstalling/reinstalling it and restarting the adventure with the same toon for the 30th time, because this new mod looks shiny, or that mod has been updated... I realized what kind of insanity I had gotten into, and stopped trying to play it altogether. Never got a playthrough into Throne of Bhaal, never experienced that Ascension mod I reinstalled so many times. Possibly a cautionary tale about the horrors of being too clingy on mods.

I'm a ridiculously big fan of Planescape: Torment, but I can easily understand how that game can be unappealing. As much as I love it, I can't play that game for extended periods..all the dialogue gets exhausting after a while, so I can only play that game in bursts of 2-3 hours. I'd argue it's more of a great novel stuck in the body of a sub-par video game, though the visuals are pretty great.

Ditto. I find it's better if you cheat, to be honest, and treat it more like a novel. While I love infinity engine tactical combat in something like Baldur's Gate, I think in Planescape it actually detracts from the experience a bit.

Haha, yeah, I always hack my stats to be 20 apiece when I play Planescape. The story benefits far more from having all my options presented to me all the time, and the combat's not interesting enough to bother doing anything but brute force my way through it. I usually play a Mage, though, just because some of the later spells look freakin' awesome.

Yeah, maybe I would've liked it more if I played it back when it was released. Maybe I'm just spoiled by newer games.

I'm adding this as well. Tried TF2 and found it to be bland and boring.

Also, I have serious issues with motion-sickness, so I cannot play stuff like the Half Life series and several other first-person games without getting seriously nauseated and wanting to lay down and puke. I managed to make Bioshock more tolerable by modifying the FOV, but I really feel like I'm missing out on some great games.

I almost always play a fighter, myself. What with the game's aesthetic, TNO's character model, and the fact that Dak'Kon can be a pretty durned effective mage, and Grace a decent combat priest, Annah having the Thief scene covered... fighter just felt natural. But that's the beauty of that game is that you can pick up any class at any time.

Quite a lot of games; Grand Theft Auto, Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, Minecraft, The Binding of Isaac, Borderlands, Team Fortress 2, Halo, Half-Life 2, Doom 3, the Infinity Engine games and so on.

Minecraft :D

As much fun as its supposed to be (i mean IS), I get bored just walking around after a few minutes.

I might add GTA, but I think it's fun when you "just get the campaign done". Though that defeats the purpose of the open world they've crafted for you.

No kidding. I got into it a bit playing with a bunch of my friends, but a hole-digging simulator is not my idea of a good time. Can see why some people dig it though.

To me, Minecraft is one of those games that I either play with friends or I don't play at all. Terraria's the same way. Playing either of those by myself is about as exciting as watching grass grow. They're incredibly entertaining with friends, though.

Halo.

Grand Theft Auto never appealed to me.

I may try CoD one of these days, but it's unlikely.

This is exactly how I feel about The Witcher 2. Everyone was always praising it for being the best RPG of all time, but it felt like a chore to play through and I was not satisfied at all. It would have made a much better novel/movie than a game (which makes sense seeing as how it's based off a novel).
