I have been a PC gamer since 1998, but due to finances I have switched to a console gamer. My brother bought me a PS4 for Christmas and I have since bought a nice 42" LED HDTV. And the best part is I will not need any upgrades until the PS5 comes out and that is at least 5+ years away. I use to drop a lot of money on PC games I have over 180+ PC games, most of which I got on sale. But I now can go to my local video store and rent a game for $7 for a week, beat it and return it and move on to the next game. I now only buy the games that I know I am going to want to keep. How about you have you made the switch from PC to console gaming?

Ditto. And since so many games are multiplatform these days, I don't find much use in playing anything but PC classics or the odd indie game. For everything multiplatform, I generally prefer a large television and a gamepad.

Also, I tend to prefer the convenience a console provides. I used to be such a tech guru and enthusiast, but nowadays, I just get intensely frustrated when I have to mess with drivers and troubleshoot problems I often have with PC gaming. Mods, as well..they're great to have, but I often put so much emphasis on modding that I completely forget to enjoy the game itself.

I've always kept a certain balance, although the PC has become my main system after I stopped using my Xbox 360. The experience of sitting in front of the TV screen with a PS2 and playing older jRPGs can't be replaced. You can emulate it but it just won't feel the same. I only really do older consoles. I don't care much for the newer ones.

I had a computer over a decade before I got my first console (Commodore ftw!). It worked fine mostly because so many of my friends had the consoles so I could play the console games I wanted anyway. But then I moved to another city and missed the console goodness and bought my first console.

As for today, I play almost all the multiplatform games on PC while my PS3 is used for all the nice japanese games that aren't released for PC (like Drakengard 3 which is released for the PS3 in 2 weeks).

I've always been a mixed gamer. I play some games on PC only, some on console only, some on both.

In the 80's and early 90's I played on a console (DOS was just too much of a pain), however by the late 90's it was all PC gaming and not much on the consoles. I have continued this way since. I did not get an Xbox360 until 2009 and that was because my parents bought it for me. I have hardly used it. I certainly have not bought one of the new generation consoles, and not sure if I ever will.

I'm the opposite. Started on Commodore, quickly switched exclusively to consoles, then switched to PC after my beloved Dreamcast died.

My time using either platform for gaming is split at about 70/30 between PC and console, respectively. I use my consoles for exclusives and for games my PC wouldn't be able to run, but other than that I use my PC whenever possible. Largely because it's a lot easier and less expensive to buy games for it.

Oh, and because of all those older PC-exclusive games, of course.

I do both, but I've been moving away from consoles lately. I find that nowadays I rarely need to upgrade due to many games being designed around console upgrade cycles, the amount of troubleshooting required to play PC games has gotten down to almost none (for me, anyway), and the living room PC gaming experience has gotten to the point that it's nearly indistinguishable from a console experience (thanks to things like Steam Big Picture Mode that even works with non-Steam games in most cases). I've accumulated so much stuff trying to keep up with consoles over the years that sticking to PC gaming has actually simplified my life a bit. YMMV.

I hear you about troubleshooting PC games. I am the opposite though. I played for years on console and recently move to PC. For me the frustration with Bethesda for not not doing simple things like allowing more HUD options for Skyrim (like turn off compass without loosing status bars) that put me over the edge with console gaming. Plus, you just cannot get a lot of good games on console, like Fallen Enchantress LH or Mount and Blade.

I have my PC hooked to aTV and use a 360 controller (with xpadder) so it feels much like playing on a console. But I would rather deal with the frustration of getting the PC to work right than the frustration of not being able to do what I want to do in the game.

I still have my consoles and won't get rid of them. Heck, I even have a mint in box PS2 console mothballed so I will be able to keep playing my old 1980s arcade games (Defender, Battlezone, Adventure, etc) long after my current PS2 bites the dust.

I've set it up so that I'm using a 32" screen as a desktop monitor. I can play pc titles through that setup happily, emulated titles look gorgeous through Dolphin and ePSXe and pcsx2. On top of that I've got a Wii and a PS3 connected up to it as well. It's nice to have a variety of control choices as well. I've got KB+M for titles that require speed and accuracy. The wired 360 controller for most other titles. A Dual Shock 2 for titles that want a d-pad as the 360's d-pad is crap. Bluetooth dongle and bingo! You've got a Wiimote connected to your pc as well. Only thing to add would be a flight stick for Falcon 4.0. I'm just reluctant to spend the money on a stick for just one title though. Tempted to pick up a set of 5.1 speakers for use with the PS3 as well. I've got 7.1 speakers hooked up to the pc but the connector for that isn't compatible with the PS3 sadly. The Last of Us is just calling for a speaker upgrade!

The convenience point it a bit of an odd one for me. Back around 2002 sure it was more convenient to go for a console. Now though you're going to end up jumping through firmware updates and patches as much as gpu drivers and patches on a pc. On the flipside of that at least on a console I don't have to put up with Steam/Origin/UPlay though.

Special irritation though goes towards Nintendo and their firmware updates. Getting Fatal Frame 4 running... sheesh.
