List of mods?

Post » Mon May 12, 2014 7:51 am

Does someone do lists of mods that work together? Like, saying "get this, this, this and this, put them in that order and play'? And I'm not talking about recommended mods like GEMS, I want a proven to work build. It would have been easier if people could just take the mods and pack them together, but I know how the moders don't like that, so a detailed guide what to download and from where is the next best thing I can think of.

Steps gives stability, but also only lists a bunch of gameplay mods that can't work together - you can see both SkyRe and Requiem in the gameplay section. I will follow steps for its system improvement part, but I need a list of non-conflicting gameplay mods.

It's really pretty simple where gameplay mods are concerned: if they do the same thing, they aren't compatible. You have to choose. One needs mod, one perk mod, one combat mod, etc. Of course, this isn't restricted to gameplay mods. By and large, you wouldn't use two different lighting mods together, for example.

I don't know of any such list. You have to read mod pages, and if they're worth installing, they'll generally tell you what they're incompatible with (and perhaps have patches to make things compatible.) You can also go on Youtube and search for Skyrim videos. Most of them post their mod list. If it's working for them, it'll work for you (compatibility wise, anyway; not necessarily performance if your machine isn't as powerful as theirs)

Yeah, Skyrim is really missing that kind of mod list around. And STEP is ludicrously over-specced for the "basic" version, with their patch not really adding anything for stability and only removing 9 esps itself. Unfortunately, people make long, overproduced YouTube videos instead of websites and play-lists these days. Welcome to the future.

There's http://arwenevecom.ipage.com/Skyrim/Skyrim_Mods.htm, though she's in the process of updating it at the moment.

Yeah, really simple, it was obvious that skyre's slow time potion will be [censored] up by the properties of 101 bugs' ingredients, right?

The YouTube videos is something I didn't thought of, so thanks for that reminder.

I tried looking for something like NVEC (Fallout New Vegas) as well for Skyrim but had no luck. The problem or "thing" with this kind of idea is that the packager of the overhaul needs permission from each of the mods authors and in some cases on the nexus some of the authors are just not around anymore or some want all of the endorsemants on their own page so will not allow it. Which is perfectly fair by all means but makes it hard to release the way you would want it. I have watched the NVEC thread page for a couple years and hairylegs doesn't always get permission.

No matter what mods you're using, you should always be using a merged patch. That (and a Reproccer patch) will take care of that kind of thing. I use those two mods together just fine, because I have such patches. There are lots of mods that change the same records, and if you don't use a merged patch, whatever it lower in the load order will overwrite the other, similar mod. Lots of mods also modify the leveled lists. Same deal. Fortunately, we don't have to pick and choose between such mods because cool folks have created utilities like Wrye Bash for us.
