I'm trying to get Skyrim to run on an ASUS N56VZ-RH71 for my wife. The game has a nasty video lag issue whenever moving over a point of light or a lot of shadows (game breaking).

In the process of trouble shooting, I found that the RenderInfo.txt it telling me that it is using the Intel HD 4000 video adapter. I had already gone into the Nvidia control panel to set Skyrim to use the 650M. I've even went in and told the system to use the 650M as the default and it still shows he HD 4000 as the device

note: disabling the HD 4000 in device manager shows the game using the default Microsoft renderer, which makes the whole game look like a slideshow. I have not found the location to disable the Intel via BIOS.

Anyone have any ideas?

specs:

CPU i7 3640QM

GPUs Intel HD 4000, Nvidia 650M

RAM: 8GB

OS: Windows 8.1 Update 1

I assume you installed drivers for it. Can you select in in the launcher options? From the drop-down box?

Is your BIOS up-to-date?

The latest nvidia drivers are installed, Intell too for that matter, The 650M does show in the drop down (the Intel does not actually)

it is the adapter selected however.

I updated the BIOS this morning (hoping to find a way to just disable the HD 4000) but no change (nor an option ot disable the HD)

I think the Intel graphics is embedded in your CPU. Try uninstalling the Intel driver and installing the nVidia driver. Check your bios again and see if there are any settings related to the cpu that refer to graphics.

Firstly: At Control Panel - Power Options - Change to Performance mode !!!!

Right click on desktop and choose "NVIDIA Control Settings"

Look at left panel,under 3D Settings --> Manage 3D settings - now you have 2 tabs GLOBAL SETTINGS and PROGRAM SETTINGS.
Under GLOBAL SETTINGS tab under "Preferred graphics processor" choose "High Performance NVIDIA processor".

Don't change any other details on that tab.

Now,under PROGRAM SETTINGS tab click the button ADD which will ask you to browse the program you want.

Browse it to wherever your game is installed and find the ".exe" file.

Choose the ".exe" file and click OK,the under "select the preferred graphics processor for this program" choose "High performance NVIDIA processor".
Click OK(if there is any) to save the changes and you're done.

After all this, delete your skyrim.ini and Skyrimprefs.ini, making skyrim to scan your hardware again. !!!

Next time when you open your game it should normally run with the NVIDIA card.

See under your Skyrim - options panel if your Nvidia GPU is listed, and choose it. (drop down menu)

You can't change your graphics adapter, on the most laptops from your BIOS, as you don't have to disable your HD intel GPU from your device manager.
