I woke up at around 4:00 AM that day to get a couple of errands done before work. Immediately upon waking up I had to go yell at the toilet after which I ran my errands and puked a couple more times before heading to work.
Work was a [censored]show. I have a cubicle job so it wasn't that hard to just hang out and run to the bathroom occasionally but I got absolutely nothing done and made it about six hours before I said [censored] it and headed home.
I should also say that the entire day I had an elevated heart rate and was unable to catch my breath.
Anyway, I made it home and laid down panting on the couch for about ten minutes, unable to catch my breath. My roommate got home around then and I had him drive me to the clinic.
The clinic suggested I go see a real doctor so we went to the ER (puked out of the passenger side door three times during this ten minute drive) and after a short time there I was transported from there to an ICU at another hospital.
They drugged me up thoroughly and upon waking I was told that I had been experiencing diabetic ketoacidosis. My actual diagnosis came the following morning.
Since then I've pretty much been one bored pincushion. I was on an insulin IV until earlier today and my blood sugar is now at a point that it can be regulated without one. I also finally got to take a shower as well, which is nice since I ended up smelling like an old lady fart which had been passed through a stale onion.
I get to be discharged tomorrow. I now get to count carbs, [censored] a finger to check my blood sugar 4X/day and stick an insulin needle in my stomach on the regular.
I also don't get to drink anymore which is kind of a bummer as I'm a consummate alcoholic.
Anyway, interesting weekend. Not much of a story but I'm bored in the hospital and figured some of y'all might have some stories/anecdotes to entertain me for the remainder of my stay.
I know this is a slow-moving forum and I presumably won't be around much to mind the thread once I'm discharged but in the interim, have at it.
Cheers.
