Question on compatibility (installing F3 now)

Post » Wed May 14, 2014 10:56 am

To start off, this is the GoTY Steam version on Windows 7 with UAC disabled.

Since some of the mods in the Nexus have dead links, I was hoping if someone here could give me a quick run-down if these mods are compatible or not. The main one (as well as the biggest one) has a dead link when trying to view its compatibility list.

FWE - FO3 Wanderers Edition - Compatibility link is broken.

DarNUI for FO3

Fellout

MMM (obviously since I loved his work in Oblivion)

NMCS Texture Pack

Those are just the ones I want to start out with. Given my experience with modding Oblivion, I'm sure I'll need that Unofficial Patch as well.

I've read the stickies, but any additional information is greatly appreciated. I played this game for a while back when it was released, but I never really played it too in-depth as I had just came off a major Oblivion binge and I was getting a bit strung out on Bethesda games.

There should be no problem with getting FWE working for it to work with MMM you want to use the blackened series of compatible patches. Just get the one for MMM and FWE. There are others if using some other common mods like EVE and Project Beauty.

I use all the mods you have listed and they all came from the Nexus. Some of those are download quite recently.

Here is the link to the Blackened mod at Nexus

[edit]

I see now what you are talking about.

List all the mods you are looking to use.

Some mods will need a patch like Blackened has to make it work with other mods. there are others as well depending on the mods. Quite a few mods will have the compatibility patch for FWE there if one is needed since FWE is one of the most common mods for Fallout.

First thing, with NMC, use the smallest texture sizes, the larger ones will cause issues.

Second, heed the advice in the sticky about the install location or you will cry everytime you try to mod the game.

Now, as for Nexus links, not sure where you getting them, but if you search for the files, then you will find it that way

Not sure what compatibility patch you need, but they are all here, the one for FOIP and FWE and MMM downloaded for me

Thanks for the information and links. As far as file permissions go, I disabled UAC the day I built my computer, so that is never an issue for me. I probably should have noted it in the OP, but I am playing the Steam version on Windows 7.

CCNA the OP is talking about the link at Nexus for information on which mods are compatible for FWE. That link goes to FWE site but no information on that subject.

[edit]

Did not see the OP post when I posted.

suggestion is to test the game out first after it is installed and then install the NMC smallest textures. They still look great and does not hurt the performance on the system that much.

Then I would get DarnUI

Then install those other mods you listed.

and also the unified hud mod from Gopher. Since there are quite a few mods out there that alter the hud and this one makes them play well togerther. You install this mod last or when adding a new mod that changes the hud you uninstall this mod and then install it after installing the other hud mods.

http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/15771/?

After that is done it is best to just test it out and then go from there.

Other mods you might want or need is

Fose

Fallout stutter Remover

The mods I plan on using right off the bat are:

FWE Wanderer's Edition

MMM

Dynamic Weather

DarNUI

Unofficial Patch

Fallout Street Lights

Looks like I'll need FOIP as well if I want FWE and MMM.

Those are the only ones I want to start with. What would you recommend my installation order be?

I found it was better to use the blackened patch that I linked in my first patch. There is a version just for MMM and FWE. The FOIP one is good as well. I decided to use the Blackened one for FWE and MMM. I use a different FOIP for FWE and WMK.

[edit]

With a few mods it does not matter that much since they will not change the files from the other mods. The compatibility patches would be the last one since they contain the needed fixes to make them work together.

I would first go with NMC small texture pack and then load up the game and see how the game performs. after that it would be Darn UI. and then the other mods.

I gave a link for a few other mods you should look at if needed. The Unified Hud is quite nice since FWE makes changes to the hud. DarnUI does as well but FWE has a patch for that so that should be good. But there are quite a few nice mods that adds elements to the hud. Some of them are made from Gopher but there are others as well.

Also you should be getting BOSS or LOOT. That is a useful tool to help manage your load order.

Since you are going to use FWE and DarNUI, make sure you get the DarNUI version that is linked on the FWE description page.

If you plan to use NMC Texture Pack, make sure you get the Large Address Aware Enabler that is linked on the Texture Pack page.

I would also suggest that you get DC Moods, Point Lookout Moods and The Pitt Moods.

If this is to imply that you have Fallout 3 installed in your Program Files(x86) folder, it doesn't matter if you turn off UAC. There are other security features in place that can cause problems with mods. You really should move it somewhere else.
