Re-mapping mouse buttons causes problem with the in game map

Hi

I've just signed up to the forum as I have an issue with Skyrim for the PC that, although I've searched online and found various mentions of problems with re-mapping keys in Skyrim, couldn't find mention of the particular problem I am having anywhere.

Up until a year ago I was an Xbox gamer but recently have been playing World Of Warcraft on the PC.

Having enjoyed previous Bethesda games on my Xbox (specifically Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas) I thought I'd give Skyrim a go on the PC but, because I am used to using the mouse to move around (from playing WoW) I decided to re-map the move forward command to the right mouse button (from the W key) and the activate button to the left mouse button (from the E key) and made the W and E keys my left and right hand action buttons.

This all seemed to work fine, but when I brought the in game map up to view my location it seems that I can only move Up, Left or Right on the map (in other words I can't move Back) and if I set a custom waypoint I cannot select any of the commands to "Move It", "Leave It" or "Remove It" as the mouse button is unresponsive (presumably because I've re-mapped it) and as such cannot get out of the map screen (pressing escape doesn't work either) and have to crash the game to get out.

Has anyone else had this problem and if so, is there a way around it?

Also, as a small side issue, how on earth do you rescale the game window if you play it in "windowed" mode as mine seems to only want to be about a fifth of the size of my laptop screen and I don't seem to be able to re-size it?

Thanks in advance

Martin

You can, or should be able to, use the Arrow Keys to move around the Map. BTW, you have also borked the Level Up screen too my remapping the keys like you have. You may have to use the Arrow Keys in there, but not sure how you are going to select the Perk and Skill trees in that window.

You may find you have to move the actions back to the stock mouse functions. However, what may help you is to use the AutoWalk/Run key, or Q. You could also remap the Q to an extra mouse button if you have one to use.

BTW, if your not using a controller, then disable both the gamepad and the rumble in Options, it will reduce stuttering in the game.

Hi

Thanks for the reply. I'll try the cursor keys to move around but I won't be able to use them to select a Waypoint option will I? I obviously haven't got far enough to do any levelling up so haven't discovered a problem with that yet.

The mouse as a peripheral is for movement so using it to move around makes perfect sense to me and having played WoW it makes absolutely no sense to me to use the mouse to "fight", that's what the keyboard is for. I'm already thinking that perhaps getting this game on PC was a bad idea :(

You can always use a 360 controller if you want.

However, training your muscle memory only takes a few minutes. I play about 10 different games currently and each one has differences in the controls. If I decided to not play a game because the controls are laid out differently, then I would not be playing many games.

Oddly enough, the TES control layout is more universal than the WOW layout is.
