Stealth suit Mk II is worse than lightno armor

Post » Sun May 18, 2014 1:08 am

I'm playing a Sneak/Guns character, max out on Sneak and I had Silent Running, so I was pretty excited when I got my hand on the Mk II. I got it through all the tests and got all the upgrades.

So I stumbled upon Big MT north tunnel ,the tunnel right next to the Forbidden Zone Entrance (

Spoiler
Where you fight the giant robo scorpion
. It's also where I found the Light Switch 02 tape. The entire tunnel was pitch black. Far back in the tunnel there's a hostile Overclocked Turret, and there's vending machine with has the only light source from a light bulb on the wall. I was still Hidden when I got behind the vending machine.

So I stick my head out of the vending machine (I had the Mk II equipped) trying to snipe the turret. Technically I was kind of exposed, so the status went quickly to Caution and a few seconds later the turret spotted me and open fire and killed me. I understand; it happens all the time, especially under light.

So I reload the game, scoot back further into the shadows behind the vending machine. This time, I was in complete darkness. So I stick my head out and try to snipe. Status went to Caution, so I was like "Whaa...?". I shot the turret once, it spotted me and open fire.

I reload the game, this time unequipping the Mk II, so I was in my underwear. I was in the exact position in the shadow as previously. So I stick my head out, wait for a couple seconds, spin around, did a dance.. Nothing, still Hidden. I shot the Turret once, Caution. Half a minute later it went back to Hidden. So I scoot up to the lit up area behind the vending machine - still in my underwear - stick my head out for a couple of seconds. Still Hidden. Then I got a Sneak critical kill.

Wasn't the first time the Mk II screwed me over, either. When I went to get the Autodoc in that building with the Orderly robots... I was behind THE frigging ENTRANCE closed steel door, in complete darkness, and I could have sworn that the Mk II sold me out to the bots because as soon as I walk near the ENTRANCE door (Didn't even open it), status goes into Caution, and a couple seconds later it goes to Danger and the bots start swarming me. I DID NOT EVEN OPEN THE FRIGGING DOOR!!!

Then for the rest of the DLC I just stick with my usual leather armor and things went just as fine as usual. So is it just me or the Mk II really blows? Is it because it's medium armor, so Silent Running doesn't work? So far the armor was a complete disappointment: It's slow, it yells out the same line every ten seconds, it keeps overdosing me with Med-X, and I hate the colors.

I think the Mk II is supposed to be a catch 22. They made it with various effects beneficial to sneaking, but not the ideal armor type. Or it was a joke by Obsidian. Either way it probly works better in the Mojave than in Big MT due to the enemies' perception there. Personally, I take the light armor perks so I never use it anymore.

It's a medium armor, so it can't be used for sneaking. It's useful for a non-sneak focused character for the intial sniping on distant enemies enemies before rushing in with automatic weapons.

do you guys really think it was a blatant joke or that it was just an accident by the devs?

i've only tried the suit out while in hc mode so stimpack healing over time does mess with the suits auto injectors. do you think it would work better in a non-hc mode game? stimpacks would then instant heal therefore there is no lag in health and the suit wouldn't read you as being bellow the safe hp indicator..

either way, i agree that it's good stealth sniper armor. something to keep you company in the wastes.

lol@why dont you love me...spiteful girlfriend syndrome..

I guess that makes sense. So the Assassin's Suit in Dead Money is probably a better stealth armor?

Normally it was me who waste stimpaks because of my low DT and Endurance (I usually pop 3 or 4 at half health). Despite all the bad things, the suit actually helped me save some stimpaks (and I got hit all the time in Big MT... Got to remind myself to load up on the pulse slug the next time around). I grab it and Christine's Sniper as soon as I got out of the Sink, then I used it up until the very final mission where I switched back to light leather armor. I started with around 140 stimpaks, and by then I was at like 110; that's only 30 stimpaks throughout the entire ordeal.

Oh and Stealth Boy doesn't really work on the Mk ii either.

My general experience with the Stealth Suit Mk II has been mostly positive. In OWB it seems like enemies home in on you pretty fast, no matter what armor you are using.

My current character, who is in OWB, has been exclusively wearing light armor, to benefit from the light armor perk Light Touch. All my other characters have used the SSMII in OWB as soon as they could acquire it, and tbh I haven't noticed much difference. Except that the Chinese Stealth Suit seems to get damaged much more easily than the SSMII, despite having a similar DT.

Two points to note:

I accumulate such a huge reserve of Stimpacks early in the game, that the SSMII use of them doesn't make any difference. While wearing the Chinese Stealth Suit I seem to run through about the same number of auto-stimpacks that the SSMII would use.

I play non-hardcoe, so my results may be different from a hardcoe playthrough.

Unsure about this. The only times I have been able to complete the Courier's Mile is with almost continuous use of Stealth Boys. Once while wearing Remnants Power Armor,

and once while wearing the SSMII. The effects seemed similar.

Yes definitely. I'd use any light armor or clothing instead of the MkII.

The Chinese armor probably has less HP and degrades faster.

The Mk II suit can get alot of benefits...

I'd like it if it didn't talk, or as much. Or give me injections of meds automatically. I don't see why devs decide to add such things into armor, it makes me not want to use it.

For example the medic armor if F3, talked waaaay too much and injected me with unnecessary crap. Like [censored] I'm level 30 and can one shot anything in the game I don't need med-x whenever I run into combat.

Its ability to make you sneakier is useless with 100 sneak. At 100 sneak EVERY armor will make you less sneaky.... even Assassin armor & the Chinese Stealth Suit. You are adding weight and your sneak skill is constant.

The nice thing about that armor is the stims and talking. Its like the medic armor in FO3.

I use the assassin armor because I like how it looks, but honestly Joshua Graham's armor or Siera Madre reinforced armor is better. At 100 sneak they are all the same... well Graham's armor is lighter....

With the jury rigging perk the above armors are also easier to fix.

It's a nod to Starship Troopers and the meds and chems that were injected into the soldiers just before they dropped into combat. The suits were even capable of surgeries, mostly amputations, in the field.

The only thing I hate about it is how it always uses my drugs when I don't need them and always manages to make me guilty when I try to replace it.
