I dearly love yogurt. I make a great dessert for potlucks and potlatches out of yogurt and fruit and angel food cake. People seem to love it.

Just buy a pre-made angel food cake and tear it into chunks and put it in the bottom of a big flat pan. Macerate berries. I mix blueberries, strawberries and raspberries but have made it all from one berry or different kinds of berries. Mix a 16 oz. container of vanilla yogurt with 4 oz of cream cheese, a scant 1/4 cup of sugar and a couple of tsp. of extra vanilla until smooth and pour it over the angel food cake chunks then pour macerated berries over the top. Do that just before serving so it won't get too soggy.

It's delightful but not low calorie. You can save on fat and calories by using artificial sugar and low fat yogurt and cream cheese. But if I'm serving it to the masses, they generally prefer when I don't do that.

The yoghurts from supermarket with added fruits can contain up to 20-25% of their weight in added sugar, be careful.

Best to just buy plain, unaldulterated yoghurt and add our own fillings.

Muesli is great in it as are various dried or canned fruits, fresh fruits such as strawberry or banana and of course its great to add to oven dishes to make a nice sauce or mixed with some mayonaise and spices as a good dip for chips or vegetable strips.

Never had plain yogurt I don't think. I'll have to check it out next time I go to the store. The macerated fruit and plain yogurt sounds good though.

I would love to make a cake with yogurt in the middle (flavor pending on what type of cake) .

Yep, I was about to say that, ha. Also, lowfat yogurts and sugar-free yogurts usually have the dreaded... ASPARTAME. So avoid that, too.

I usually buy plain or organic vanilla and add my own fruit and nuts to it or use it in green smoothies. But since organic foods are expensive as [censored], I buy plain.

Dreaded by who? I'm pretty sure there's nothing wrong with aspartame.

When it is seriously lobbied for that food should contain additives not listed on the label, its time for a gigantic round of firing.

The people in that business need to lose their job, this is an outrage.

I don't want to get into the politics of this, just pointing out to people that they might need to take a closer look at what they are paying their hard earned money for. Being vegetarian, I'm used to checking ingredient lists and the like, but this is deliberate misinformation which could lead to health problems for some.

Only in America. I'm pretty sure that in the EU, every single additive used has to be on the label. And rightly so, of course. Customers have a right to know what they're buying, not to mention that additives can be dangerous to people with allergies. But the last part of that article, about the supposed dangers of aspartame, sounds like typical internet scaremongering to me. I am neither a biologist nor a chemist, so as any sensible person would do when in doubt, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspartame#Safety_and_approval_controversies And apparently it's completely safe.

But what am I thinking, Wikipedia is controlled by http://fellowshipofminds.files.wordpress.com/2011/07/tinfoilhat.jpg

I should find out if I can try it.

Now that'd be something. ^_^ But really? I had only heard about the illegal meat, but I believe they're trying to crack down on that pretty hard now (better late than never I suppose).

I love yogurt. In the past couple of years I got into greek yogurt and I love Chobani. Variety of flavors, though need to watch out for some of the more exotic ones because they can have seeds.

If you really want to get into yogurt, look into making your own. It's real easy and it can be done continuelessly.

Leave a carton of milk in the fridge for a few weeks?

Bacon Maple yogurt sounds good.

Nah everyone home would get yogurt poisoning.

Just found out Greek Yogurt is just strained yogurt. Probably the exact same stuff you can get in kid friendly kinds of yogurts, only with different ingredients. I might want to get some just because I'm sick of bothering with all the cotton candy flavors of kid yogurt. I despise all cotton candy. The normal yogurt is hard for me to eat due to how sensitive I am to textures of food.

I can tolerate cotton candy as a Dippin Dots knock off flavor, though. Just because the good flavors always get sold fast.

I know this isn't yogurt, but does anyone here enjoy kefir? It's pretty good with sugar and raspberries if you want to mix it with something. It has a distinctive taste, so it's probably not for everyone.

I haven't had it in many years, but Terash Cas's comment about leaving milk in the fridge reminded me of it, since kefir is fermented milk. I think it's pretty good, although it tastes too sour for me without some sort of additives.
