Oblivion on a laptop

Post » Mon May 10, 2010 3:40 pm

I'm considering getting a laptop for gaming & am wondering if anyone uses them for playing Oblivion?

I've seen a few gaming laptops, but I don't know how powerful they are really. Are they good enough these days to run Oblivion on high/a bit futureproof? Or are they nowhere near as good as desktops?

Thanks in advance.

I have a Sager gaming laptop that's almost two years old and plays Oblivion on high fairly well, 15-20 FPS on average. I usually play it at medium settings for around 30 FPS. I'm planning on getting a new desktop computer sometime this year though.

I play Oblivion on a laptop, a non-gamer laptop, with mods and everything with little problem. It's worth mentioning I use medium graphics and no graphics mods. A laptop meant for gaming could play it with no problems at all I imagine, if my laptop can handle all that.

You could probably buy a good desktop and a cheap laptop for the same price as a good laptop....unless you want to play everywhere you go I do not see the point.

This.
I was set on a laptop for gaming. Well, my form of "gaming" which includes all of three games, haha. Then I started doing some more research and realised that I could get a higher spec desktop for less than half the price of the laptop I was looking at. It'd be self built, but you see where I'm coming from?

Thanks for the advice, people. I'll probably get a PC in this case, I didn't realise there was such a difference in price!

Cool, well I use my laptop for gaming, but also for school, so the portability is nice in my case.

Most laptops are not easy or cheap to upgrade; normally people will buy one then a few years later buy another where as with a PC you can just upgrade components.

Laptops are not easy to clean either, dust and dirt can clog them up after a couple of years of use.

I have a Dell XPS M1710 that I bought about five years ago. It plays Oblivion great on medium-high graphics. However, I think I spent upwards of 5 grand for it with all the gaming options and you could build at least 3 gaming desktops with much better performance for that much. So definitely go for building a desktop. You'll Have a much better gaming experience and at a fraction of the cost. I'm dreading rebuilding my gaming desktop to play skyrim :) it's also five or six years old.
