Important Avengers Cut Scene

Post » Sun May 18, 2014 4:34 am

Is it just me or did they make a drastic mistake by cutting http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pov4qMSfg9w scene out of The Avengers? Cap/Steve Rogers is my fav character in the recent Marvel franchise. I just found I identified more with him than any of the others, especially with his pre-op self, if you get my drift? Not only would it have been interesting to see him as a fish out of water as I was hoping for, but it would've added so much to his character development and the depth of the movie. I just love the poignancy of him looking through all the files of his now deceased buddies and his now elderly girlfriend, then, just as he's at his lowest ebb he happens across what I expect to be his future contemporary girlfriend! Anyone agree with this?

Better for his own movie than a movie with several Marvel characters in it. Really, there wasn't much character exploration for any of the characters, except for the ones that don't have their own movie. :D But even then, that was just a bit more than the other heroes, so...

And besides, that scene with Cap punching the sabdbag while remembering the war was good enough, in my opinion. :)

Agreed. It would have fit better in its own movie.

ohhh.. I liked that a lot. Terrible mistake to remove that. I hated that character in Avengers because he lacked character and seemed like the heartless good guy. I was going into this movie not knowing a single character and felt like I only knew that archer, Iron man and the women.

You know, when I first saw that scene I really had to wonder why they didn't put it in, especially how it ties into scenes at the end of the movie. Or wonder why they didn't make a 'director's cut' that included it.

I had read Captain America comic books before and none of the others (bar one issue of Thor, which was taken over by Hercules), but was never really a big fan until the movies came out, now he's definitely my fav.

Maybe we'll see the waitress again in the next Captain America movie. :whistling:

Ah, now the clip of the hot blonde waitress staring at Captain America in awe as he saved the people in the building makes sense, because she recognized him from the cafe!

Full circle...

That is such a good scene, but then again movies need to be like tv shows now for those of the short attention spans.

It's a good scene, but I think it'd have taken away from the overall flow and feel of the movie. It'd belong in a captain america film, though.

I think they planned it as a sequel to Captian America, Thor, and Iron Man 2, so I can see how you were lost not knowing anyone. To fully enjoy it I think one must see the preceding movies, which makes it make a lot more sense.

I liked the scene, and it does really give him some depth in the movie, but it wasn't really a whole lot about character development besides Hawkeye and Black Widow.

They probably should have done a Captain America sequel before making the Avengers, to flesh out his character a bit more. Hulk's movie already explored his character a bit, Iron Man had two films, Hawkeye and Black Widow were only new anyway, Thor got some development because the villain was Loki, but Cap kind of got introduced in in his movie, and then was just there being moralistic in Avengers.

He had his own film. I think his 'importance went a bit too far personally. ;)

The trouble with adding this scene in a Cap 2 movie is the dialogue will be all wrong. He's already met the waitress by that time, and they both act as if he's never met Iron Man. He also looks at Tony Stark's picture as if he's never seen him before, as if he's seeing his old boss's son with a look of recognition. He's seen in his early days walking the streets looking as if he's on an alien planet. None of this will work in Cap 2 unless they make it a prequel to The Avengers? Even if they do, it still wont be the same. I've just looked at the running time of the clip and it was just over 3 minutes. Surely they could've fit just 3 extra minutes in there? If they were that tight for time I saw lots of meaningless humor that could've been cut.

Thats just how movies work. You film 50 scenes, and keep 20. That's just one cut scene out of many - take any of them, add it to the special features, and someone's going to think it was a mistake to cut it.

That it made it to the disc means it was close to being in the movie, and if you like you can imagine that it still "happened," anyway. :)

Some cut scenes from the movie I can understand why they were cut for time reasons, because they don't add much if anything to the movie, but that scene is, in my opinion, very important for that specific character. It's explaining his mind-set for the entire movie, including his possible future relationship with the waitress. I've also noticed in that scene that Cap and the waitress seem to be very similar, not only in personality but also physically. They both have similar facial features. Wonder if that was a conscious decision on the part of casting, to get a girl who looked similar to him in appearance?

BTW: Anyone notice he's practically locked himself away in old fashioned places? Even his fridge is antiquated!

Saw a bit of one of the Captain America movies and then I had to get laser eye surgery to fix my eyes. Iron Man 2 was one of the worst movies I have ever seen (I have seen iron man 1 and 2 so I knew who that character was).. And Thor just looked really dumb so I never saw that movie.

Yeah I didn't like Iron Man 2, but enjoyed Thor, Captain America and the first Iron Man.

Hrm. I figure that they maybe did want to focus too much on Captain America in the film (especially with Robert Downey Jr apparently jumping up and down for Iron Man to always be the star), but something like this certainly would have been nice. Could be that they wanted to focus more on the 'fish out of water' theme for Winter Soldier, but still, could've been a nice few minutes extra in the Avengers.

This is the reason for extended editions, where pacing is not an issue.

I always prefer the "nice guy" good guy, especially when he fights for the weak at his own expense. To show him obviously hurting inside would've made him more of a three dimensional character than he seemed in the cinema release, and the film that much more deep and less of a "Michael Bay" action cartoon.

meh Captain America is a propaganda character so I don't really care for him and his stars and stripes attitude. If I was powerful bad guy in their universe then I would impale him on a pole and stick the pole on the whit houses front lawn :P

Personally I needed more Hulk smash scenes like the "puny god" one that made me lol...he's supposed to get stronger the madder he gets yet he never becomes the unstoppable rage beast in the movie like he should be.
