Do you use a special mouse or keypad for gaming, on your PC?

I have the Razer version of that (Nostromo). It's mostly the same...Razer bought the design from Belkin and created their own config software with more options. I like it too...I put one of those grippy rubber things for thumbsticks on the directional stick, which IMO makes it a lot easier to use. The only thing that bugs me about it is that - for that price - I think the keys should have mechanical switches instead of membrane switches.

I mostly use it for RPGs and MMORPGs. For FPS games I still just use WASD.

Not really. I do, however, use an ergonomic keyboard, one with a split down the middle and the key banks to either side angled. I used to get severe pain in my wrists and upper arms. Within a few days of acquiring the ergonomic pain vanished and never returned. It was a cheap keyboard when new. Cost me something like $15US if memory serves. It's pretty ancient now and still going strong. I dread the day it gives up the ghost. For some odd reason ergonomics aren't as popular as they once were. There is less choice now. What's available tends to be on the expensive side, and no model I've seen is laid out as well as my old cheapo. No, it isn't a gaming keyboard.

Mice wise, I use a Logitech MX518, which continues to meet my meager needs.

While you lot have fancy high tech mouses. I have a cheap ￡10 microsoft mouse which is missing some panels, requires sellotape to keep the battery in place and has a wheel that does not work.

Kind of odd that me being left handed, I couldn't use a left handed mouse if my life depended on it.

I have a love/hate relationship with my Black Widow keyboard. The longer I have it, the more I want to chuck it out the window and replace it with a cordless one instead. Only reason I haven't already is because the last 3 cordless keyboards I've had all wound up with broken keys on them. (all within one years time frame.)

I use a PS3 controller for most games, there rest I just use a Logitech wireless. Nothing too special.

I have a gamepad that I use for GTA and other games that were really made for console controllers.

And a joystick for X3.

I refuse to ever pay more than $20.00 on a keyboard and $15.00 on a mouse. The rest is just eye candy, bragging rights, and extra comfort for those that spend too much time to begin with on their K&M setup.

I have to disagree for a few reasons (obviously this is all just personal opinion/preference):

• I <3 on-the-fly DPI switches for mice due to so many games having drastically different levels of sensitivity.
• I also really like high-quality scroll wheels...preferably weighted ones that you can get some scrollmentum™ with. I especially hate cheap scroll wheels that are difficult to perform that "button 3" click with.
• For me there's no comparison between a keyboard with high-quality mechanical key switches and one with cheap membrane switches. Not only do they last a LOT longer, but I can type much faster on keys that provide good feedback. Unfortunately, they're usually $70 USD and up for even a no-frills model.

Yeah, I do spend too much time using a computer. Mostly because my job requires it, and I usually work 50-60 hours per week.

I am using an old generic HP USB Keyboard I bought many years ago (I bought it as soon as USB Keyboards really came out, to replace my old PS/2 Keyboard)


Seriously, people don't need to waste their cash on "gaming Mice and Keyboards", a generic USB Keyboard and an Generic Optical Mouse will do you just fine..
its what I run and when I play Online games I do fairly well (score wise i usually hit the top 4 in a round)...

I have a ten year old keyboard that still works using the cheap membrane. I totally dig the mechanical kind since I have one at work. Not worth investing on one for home though. Ironically, the vast majority of my PC usage is at home, not at work (antique store and restoration shop, as you'd imagine there is limited usage for PC's there)

The DPI? Really? I just find a sensitivty I like via Windows Mouse Settings control panel and it works with everything. My mice are always wired so that may factor into that. The sensitivty has never seemed variable.

The middle click buttons and wheel usability on every mouse I ever owned (all cheap and under $15.00) has never been an issue except on a Microsoft brand wireless mouse 1000. Of course there were other reasons why I disbanded that mouse too, such as inconsistent sensitivty and battery issues. (thus i never use wireless mice ever again).

Wanna know what grinds my gears the most? The lack of PS/2 connections on keyboards. I have a PS/2 connection on my tower, but most new keyboards are USB only. I have better uses for that USB port than a keyboard, so I'm kind of stuck with a much older keyboard at the moment.

I never really understand that considering people think nothing of spending hundreds on CPUs, graphics cards etc; but the mouse and keyboard are the bits you actually physically interface with, so it's worth getting something decent. My keyboard certainly isn't anything worth speaking of in terms of looks (it's http://christinehedley.com/images/bits/unicompspacesaver.jpg I mentioned elsewhere... er, apologies for the crumbs) and has no especially fancy features, but it is a nice quality mechanical keyboard that's good to type on.

My current mouse is a Sensei Steelseries, one of the lighter ones (I wasn't quite prepared for the outlay of their more expensive version in spite of what I said!) Again, not interested in extras, though it has some unnecessary frills, I just wanted something that was reliable.

I agree...I hate the terms "gaming keyboard" and "gaming mouse" in general. They usually indicate inflated prices and don't always indicate any sort of higher quality...oftentimes the only differences are things like cheesy "gaming" styling, lights, etc. I much prefer quality peripherals without any bells, whistles, or "gaming" styling. Just plain old keyboards and mice with high-quality sensors and switches.

Really. I find that I end up having to screw around with sensitivity settings from one game to another...sometimes just switching between PoV and menus can be awkward (Bethesda, I'm looking in your direction). I'd rather be able to switch DPI modes on the mouse while I'm playing than exit out of the game and screw around in a control panel. Like I said, matter of preference.

I've had mice that had lousy scroll wheels in the past. They're mostly ok. Still, though, the weighted metal scroll wheels are awfully nice.

That's what USB hubs are for.

Yeah, I'd prefer a PS/2 port over USB as well, but that's mostly because it's a superior connection for the keyboard...no "rollover" problems like you have with USB keyboard profiles.

Is it on Skyrim? I think that the menus operate @ 30 fps while the game operates @ 60 fps. I haven't noticed any issues of sensitivty on Skryim because I always play it with a gamepad. Oblivion and Morrowind are still K&M only games, but seem consistent. Fallout, once again gamepad, so no comment there about Fallout from me.

I don't complain about the $60 that has lasted me for the last 6 years. $10 per year. Trust me, it helps my gameplay, significantly.

I still don't get it. Was that a mouse or keyboard you posted? And did it come with a Heisenberg Compensator?

I'm using an old Saitek PC gaming keyboard (I think that is literally what its called) nothing fancy, came with a command pad that I never use and is backlit, lost the adjustable wristrest for it. Gets the job done and most importantly it is lovely to type with.

For mouse I use the Microsoft x8, I really love it, but it doesn't work wirelessly anymore and the scroll wheel is a bit knackered, scrolls fine but the 'button 3' function is a real effort. Feels great to use though and I love the DPI switches.

Nothing super fancy, just a Logitec G100S. I payed a bit more than I wanted to for it but worth it IMO because of DPI settings and I don't have to move my mouse across the entire mouse pad just for it to move 1 inch on screen

As for the keyboard, it came with my PC so it is a ibuypower brand but as long as the buttons work, I ain't complaining!
