Is there a mod to move the Minimap and stat bars?

Post » Sat May 17, 2014 6:04 pm

So, you know the part of the HUD (bottom left, bottom right) that has the minimap, magic effects, and Health/Magicka/Fatigue? Well, I'd like to move those someplace else, but the game obviously won't let me move those.

Is there a mod that allows me to move them around?

Not as far as I know. You'd have to wait for OpenMW to be released to modify these elements.

Wow, they can't be moved at all? That seems almost funny, that you can change morrowind so drastically now adays, but can't move those two little icons. :stare:

There is [MenuStates] section in Morrowind.ini which looks like positions for menus in-game. Haven't tried altering them, may be you could experiment with it a bit.

Yes, but I suppose this is related to the ones you can already move, like the inventory... I might be wrong, though.

Why funny? mods alone can't do this, these "icons" are hardcoded in game, and a real time dynamic mini map is much more than a simple icon.
So, for the map, keep it open, size it small, pin it where you like.

You are right, thats values of windows like barter, spells, character stats, loot, inventory and so on. Also position/rotation/scale of your character rendered in inventory is in this values.

I don't care about the minimap, really. I play on a rather "very widescreen" setup, and my stat bars and magicka effects are way off to the edges of my peripheral vision. I'd just like a way to bring those closer to the center of my vision.

So those values don't cover the UI elements I'm looking for?

You can resize the character display window to only show health/magicka/stamina, lock it to always-on, and position it wherever you like, but that's as close as I know how to get to what you want. This is probably not ideal, as you'd have to resize it bigger again any time you wanted to view stats, skills, and faction standing.

There's no solution for moving the magic effects as far as I know, sorry.

After looking it up, it appears that someone was once working on a mod that would hide the default UI elements and display its own: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CG0OkQIw1Oc but they said that the method for hiding the UI elements was unreliable, so it was never released. It's possible that the original code is still somewhere and could be investigated, but that was several years ago.

I see, thanks for the info.

I would love to look into the code for that video, but unfortunately I'm by no means a modder. If at all possible, maybe someone in the forum has an interest in this?

Those GUI mods were done via an MGE shader that would detect how much health/fatigue/magicka the PC had and display an image representing that. The problem with them iirc is they were done using the togglemenus command, which also hid other GUI elements. The new HUD would also be unable to replace the vanilla HUD when entering the right click menu.

Plenty of GUI mods will become possible once OpenMw passes it's 1.0 though, so just be patient.
