Custom enchantment "glow" effect?

On the left player is equipped with a standard ring of feather, on the right is equipped with a ring that has a custom enchantment. I spent several days troubleshooting this because I originally assumed it was the new helmet (cloned from the standard iron helmet) but that turned out to be fine, it just glows more than the built in armor when the custom enchantment is in effect. Built in enchantments don't affect it. I looked at the built in apparel enchantments but don't see any difference, and the spell has the visuals effect section grayed out. Is there a way to shut that off?

Hmmm, that explains why a search only turned up one question with no answers, and that was in the Morrowind forum - obviously the search in Oblivion forums only feature is busticated too.

Initial Glow-5138.rar and kuerteeEffectDrainShaderInitialGlowOnly-25707.zip is what I found with a google search, and having all four ESPs installed eliminated the glow effect so apparently somebody understands how it works. Custom versus default enchantments actually makes no difference (without the glow reducing mods that is), the glow effect is actually geared to the total power of the constant effect enchantments you're wearing. For some reason it effects custom armor more than built in armor, but after combining the four glow killer mods I combined them with my "junk.esp" mod where I'm creating all my armor and weapons I tested to destruction with about 200 fortify effect points in assorted skills and attributes, no glow in any armor, custom or builtin.
