Creating a mod patch

Post » Sat May 17, 2014 10:36 pm

Hi,

I learned from a great user called Mujuro how to make skyrim patches. I used TESVSnip to make both mods in question masters and then create a patch with bot hmods loaded, then save it. Then I change them back to normal. Works great.

But the question is, do I have to recreate the patch each time either mod is updated? Or does it depend on what was updated? I do not know how strict Skyrim is with masters and mods.

Any help appreciated.

Tony

Simply, your patch is over-riding records of a preceding mod, if a later mod retains the original records of the original mod, then the patch

will need to placed after that "later mod" IF YOU WANT to retain the patch over-ride.

You shouldn't be using TESVSnip for that. That app corrupts the files it edits.

You'll need to use a different method: http://afkmods.iguanadons.net/index.php?/topic/3046-oblivion-creating-compatibility-patches/

That guide is for Oblivion but the same principles apply to Skyrim.

Will do, thank you Arthmoor! Read it from top to bottom, will use that method from now on. Now, if one of the two mods the patch is based on changes, do I have to go back and redo the patch? Or does the patch only look for the mod file name (which is my hope)?

So long as the author isn't deleting the forms your patch is changing, it won't hurt anything.
