SkyrimDawnguard main plots.

Post » Sun May 18, 2014 11:24 pm

For lack of not knowing the propper place to post this, I post it here.

Anyway, this is a small little request, to do something about the recycled quest for Dawnguard, that intersects with the main quest line of Skyrim to locate the Elder Scroll to take down Alduin. Is it at all possible to say, work on and release a patch that makes Dawnguard's plotline indipendant(sp?) of the main Skyrim plot line so that I don't feel like I'm being forced into the main plot, which I've already conqoured about a hundred times.

I'm pretty sure patch 1.9 was the final patch. Even then, they don't release patches for DLC.

i fail to see how you are railroaded into completing the main quest when searching for the elder scroll needed for Dawnguard main quest as if you go to septimus you can do that quest that would get you access to the location where said scroll is held without having to start the main quest itself. most of the times i did that questline dragons had not even got the dragonstone

Edited for clarity

This.

You don't have to go through the main quest at all. If you follow the DG storyline they'll eventually lead you to where you need to go without delving into Vanilla's main quest.

My point is, that both quests, or in this case the same quest, for both story archs, was kind of a real lack of creativity. I mean you have this fantastic story arch going and them BAM, I'm forced to join the mages college, which really there needs to be a way around that without a console command, and into that same damned dwarven ruin, massive underground cave, and same puzzle, I completed for the main story arch.

Now keep in mind for most of you who are saying that I don't need to do the main arch, I played Skyrim and beat it WAY before the first DLC came out. So you're stating a moot point.

My obvious complaint is the merging point of a pre-existing quest. Was, to me anyway, a real kick in the balls to be side tracked into a quest, I've done enough times already in the past.

you are not forced to join the college as far as i know since i have never joined the college during the main quest as you can go directly to the outpost and get the scroll that way.

Yes, but how would the character know to go there?

I somewhat understand.. but I personally like how they intertwine given how I always do the Main Quest.

Which of course is the entire point of an RPG like Skyrim. Well cross genre Action RPG, as there is a good balance of combat, and RP via interaction.

I can get behind that. Lazy imo. I just don't like how much Dawnguard shifted away from an actual vampire related story.

I agree with the OP. The necesity to obtain the Dragon Scroll was clearly shoehorned in there because introducing 2 Elder Scrolls in one DLC was not enough.

Seriously, can someone explain to me how Alduin, Dragonrend, and the Throat of the World tie into Vyrthur's prophecy?

It would bug me more if the mages at the college just gave their information away - even for gold or a favor. Their suppose to be a reclusive lot who only share what they learn with each other. I've always explained it with my characters three ways. One, I want to join the college regardless, two, my dragon scroll - which seems tied to me in some way pointed me in the right direction to find the crazy dude whatshisname, or three, use my expertise with Thuum to wow the College into letting me join so I can make use of their services and find where to go.

There should be an alternate way in without having to actually join the college. A lot of the time I feel the speech skill is actually highly under played.

you are not forced to join the College, just go straight to Septimus's camp and he will give you access to the dungeon the Elder Scroll is located..
you never even have to set foot within the College at all.....
