HELP! Red tinted loading screen

Post » Mon May 19, 2014 2:14 am

Hi, I've just downloaded Skyrim (steam), but whenever I start it up, the loading screen and graphics are red tinted, I've got no clue how to solve it. I have tried to verify game cache, no problems there, I have tried deleting Skyrim (incl. mygames/skyrim) and reinstalling, still the same bug. I've read that I should delete some lines in .ini files, but I can't find the lines in the .ini files I found. What the h... do I do to solve this?

This probably has nothing to do with the issue, but do your monitor settings need to be adjusted? I also experienced a lot of discoloration when my monitor cable wasn't plugged into my PC's graphic card port tightly enough.

What graphic card (GPU) do you have on your system, by the way? It may have something to do with the drivers you have installed, perhaps either updating the drivers or reverting to a previous driver (if they are up to date might help).

Nah, wouldn't that effect the coloring universally on the computer screen? NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660. Just checked and it's fully updated. I also came across other threads dealing with the matter, but I simply didn't understand the solutions, possibly because they were from autumn 2011, not sure.

I had red tinted loading screens as a result of using the saveini command (related to changing ugrids).

If you've used this command, check the DATA folder (not the main game folder) for a strangely named .ini file (could be the name of one of your mods, or just gobbledegook characters) and delete it if it contains the lines listed in Mark41's post.

Exactly what kezadrinjnr says: It could be the name of one of your mod's. And it's a ini file in the data folder.

And exactly it may have those lines in there:

rUIMistMenu_AmbientZPosRGB=0,0,0
rUIMistMenu_AmbientZNegRGB=0,0,0
rUIMistMenu_AmbientYPosRGB=0,0,0
rUIMistMenu_AmbientYNegRGB=0,0,0
rUIMistMenu_AmbientXPosRGB=0,0,0
rUIMistMenu_AmbientXNegRGB=0,0,0

If yes, just delete those....

-------------

Actually make sure you don't have ANY .ini files in your DATA folder. If you have - remove them.

Some mods actually use them for configuration.

I just don't have any mod installed, it's a pure install. Except for the official DLCs - Dawnguard, Dragonborn, Hearthfire and Textures

And all .ini files (in danish they are named configuration files for some devious reason) don't have the above mentioned lines.

Their purpose is as configuration files, but they're commonly called ini files bacause that's their file extension. (eg Skyrim.ini)

1. Have you got any ini files in the data folder ?

2. Did you check Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini located (usually) in the mydocuments/mygames/skyrim folder ?

2. Did you change ugrids and/or use the saveini command ?

3. Have you used the Construction Kit ?

1. I have Skyrim_default.ini and all the graphics .ini (low, medium and so on) in Skyrim main (Steamapps folder) folder. In the data folder I have none. In Skyrim/Skyrim I have SkyrimPrefs.ini . None of those have the earlier mentioned lines

2. In mygames/skryim I have Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini and none of the have the earlier mentioned lines

3. I didn't change anything (fresh install) and I don't know what the saveini command is? Is it a console command ingame? Haven't used it AFAIK.

4. Nope

I also just installed Oblivion, same error. Should I post the content of some of the .ini or my computers specifications, will that help???

Are you running Windows 8.1?

If so, then this sounds like it may be the Nvidia drivers defaulting to Stereoscopic 3D mode, which I also had after updating to 8.1

See: http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3367

Or just install latest release drivers (minus 3d component if you don't use it)

If not the same issue, then it may be a good time for a dxdiag log/specs

hth

Actually they're called ini files because they were originally called initialization files thus the file extension .ini
