The Angles were a tribe from northern Germany/southern Denmark that went to England around the same time the Saxons (who were their neighbors to the south) did. Hence Anglo-Saxon, from the two tribes that dominated English history during that time period.
You are getting it backwards. English is a primarily germanic language with Latin influences, not a primarily Latin language with germanic influences.
