Surface Pro 3: Anyone interested?

Post » Wed May 21, 2014 10:54 am

Microsoft has released version 3, and this one actually made me sit up and take notice. The line is actually coming along quite nicely, and I'm glad Microsoft didn't give up when the Surface met a disaster release.

I think it's interesting they can pack an i7 processor in there and be thin enough to easily carry around. I wonder how hot something like that will get. Not sure if it's game-ready, but I'll consider a purchase in June since my laptop has become nothing more than an email reader and forum posting (I use the 360 for streaming now).

So, thoughts?

Meh.... They lock their OS so that you can only install apps and programs from the Microsoft Store. My wife loves her Surface RT but it's not good for much.

True, but many companies offer their apps on it. Most of the software isn't any different than what you'd order from the company. We've a Surface Pro 2 at the office and have several Adobe products on it. Can't tell them apart, really, aside from a few size differences for touch screen compatibility. Nice, really.

The best part is: if you already own a license to software on your laptop, and you download on the Pro, you can transfer the license, so re-purchase isn't required.

The Surface RT is the very limiting version. I won't touch this one.

Exactly. Don't confuse the Surface Pro and the Surface RT. They're very different animals. Surface Pro runs "real" Windows, while Surface RT runs a specialized version of Windows for ARM processors, and isn't compatible with a lot of software.

I still haven't got the most out of my Nexus 7 yet. Can't technology slow down at least for a couple of days?

i'd only be interested in that stuff if they functioned excatly like a Pc or a laptop, and a viable alternative to using a mouse is developed. touch screen just isn't good enough for me.

Not interested in Surface Pro 3 because I don't like the dimensions.

Might be interested in the Surface Pro 2 if this causes its price to come down a bit.
