ever been robbed in broad daylight?

Post » Tue May 27, 2014 11:19 am

So, today was a nice day, and since i have nothing better to do with my life (being between jobs) I decided to go read in a nearby park..

walked about 20 minutes to get to the park in question, found a nice spot in the shade, took out my old camping chair (one of the ones that fold up and you can put them in a bag you throw over your Shoulder), turned on my Radio to the local CBC station and began to read..

Now, at some point I fell asleep, and when I woke up, my radio and book were gone..

Now I will never get to know how it ends :(

anything similar ever happen to you?

Someone once came up to me and asked if I had change for a $20. I opened my wallet to pull out my cash, and he grabbed it all and ran.

I took off after him, caught up with him, then threw him in front of a car. While he laid there, I took my money back and said, "Sorry, I don't have change."

I only had $17.

Not since school when someone used sleight of hand to steal three of my best Pokemon cards right in front of me. I've never trusted magicians since.

Yup. Even been mugged! Four times. Although only once did I actually lose anything. Really got to appreciate the things I've learned in those situations. West China Town in Oahu is a pretty dangerous place at night. Samoan, Micronesian and Tongan gangs patrollin'. Once they tried to mug me with my ex nearby. She yelled at me after and said I just should have given them the $40. The thing is, I spent way more than that learning how to deal with people like that. Probably should have just given the $40, but it felt like I would have been pissing away all those years of training for nothing. Not like they had guns, thankfully.

One time I had this little girl bike I bought for one of my little hanai sister's birthdays. Left it out for 20 minutes and some crackhead little thief jacked it. Found out who it was a few days later, but he had already sold the bike. So I jacked his rims. Sold them and bought my little sis a Nintendo 3DS instead. :P

Seriously though, before someone gets the wrong idea, Hawai'i is not normally like that. It really is a safe state. Just some elements and areas are pretty bad, but easily avoided.

Was it one of those Samoan or Tongan gangsters?

Never been mugged. I'm quite big - 6'3" tall and I work out - and I'm always watchful, aware of my surroundings and of what's in my pockets. When I was a teenager, though, my house got burgled. My parents and siblings worked, so I came home to the devastation. It probably only took them ten minutes but they left a god-awful mess. The worst thing about it wasn't the stuff they stole. For me, it was a muddy footprint right on top of my bed. I felt violated.

I think I had someone try, many years ago. Some weirdo came up and kept demanding to know what I had in my bag in a vaguely threatening manner. I asked him why he wanted to know (not actually trying to be clever, I just didn't realise that he was probably trying to rob me). After a couple of minutes of this back-and-forth he gave up and wandered off.

I doubt it, they would probably never be caught messing with Pokemon. If they wanted your stuff though? They would just pick you up and take it.

Although, most Tongans, Micronesians and Samoans are not gangsters...in case someone tries to run with that idea...

I've never been robbed but in every major city I've ever visited I've had people on the street try to sell me marijuana. I'd like to know the criteria by which they guess at who would be a likely customer, heh.

Three times. I've been robbed at knifepoint once. I was robbed with what I assumed was a gun, but the guy kept his hand in his pocket, so I was never sure if he was bluffing or not. The third time I was beat up and left unconscious. When I came to, nearly everything in my pockets was gone.

This had to have occurred during the very late 1950s or more likely the early 60s, during my grade school years. A friend and I were walking to town. As I recall we were going to see a movie at one of two local cinemas. It was all but certainly Saturday or Sunday, since this occurred in bright sunshine. We made a brief stop under a ditch bridge to toss pebbles. A 'big kid' accosted us and took our funds. Some days or weeks later he appeared at our house accompanied by either a policeman or religious authority, apologized and returned the money.

Some years later, during a military tour of the Philippines (early 1970s), getting on a civilian bus in Manila someone stuck his / her hand into my rear pocket with the obvious intent to steal my wallet. The joke was on them. I always carry my wallet in a front pocket.

During the 80s someone tried to break into my military dorm room, but being indoors that wasn't in sunlight. (I found out years later that this was triggered by a fellow squadron member with a vendetta against me, thinking I had turned him in for drug use. (I did not, though I prepared the paperwork to discharge him, that being my job at the time as acting first sergeant.))

I've had my house broken into one time and that's been almost 13 years ago.

I awkoe one morning to the sound of my car alarm going off. I grabbed a 4 point tire iron and threw it through the rear window of the a hole who stole my stereo. I never did get the stereo or tire iron back. But it probably cost more for the thief to explain the broken window and replace it.

I've had people come to me to buy marijuana from me more than once. I've never even smoked as much as a cigarette. :P

Never got robbed though, thankfully.

I have never been robbed in broad or limited daylight. I am a rather imposing person due to my height and I have the seemingly rare ability to socialize with most social groups so no one messed with me in High School. When I am out and about I am rarely alone and half the time my equally imposing brother is with me.

My old family's house came close to being robbed not too long before we left the place, but it was still a bit before we officially sold it. Some of the houses in our neighborhood block kept hitting hit by thieves, and this actually went on for a short time before they were caught but I don't know what ended up happening to them.. I don't think our house was ever targeted, but they wouldn't have been able to get into the front door anyway since we kept it barred. In our new house, we're in a bit of an isolated community and we have door bars on every door as well as a security system.. so I don't see us getting robbed as long as we're careful.

One of the few nice things about living in my town is that the crime rate is low, so I have never actually been robbed. We did have our stuff vandalized a few times while I was growing up, because we lived in what amounted to our town's slum, but that was about it.
