So I wanted to resurrect an old story. Thought about resurrecting "Sunshine State" or "The Warren" but I've tried both several times and they've both died several times so I'll just let them rest in peace. Dr. Strangelove was a member of both of those stories so I figured I'd look at stories he had started that died out instead.
I rather like this one, thus the intro is copied verbatim, though I changed the title. I'll likely also be writing Strangelove's character whilst trying to stay as true to it as possible in case this takes off and he returns.
A Mad New World
Story
The year is 2140, mid-May, and deep underground in Vault 66, the Vaulters have just recently had their latest elections. But these elections were no ordinary elections. They were put in place all those years ago, when the vault was first sealed, as a solution to a problem those in Vault 66 have been under the impression of having. That problem was population density, and the fear that if the population number got too high, a toxic nerve gas would be released, killing all inside. The elections were meant to choose who in the vault would have to leave forever, keeping just low enough that the threat of nerve gas wasn’t going to happen. Every time the population number neared the danger zone, an election was had, every resident of Vault 66 who was thought to be capable (which meant 14 years old and up), including the Overseer him/her-self, was put on the ballot list of possible expellable candidates.
Every election, past and present, five Vaulters were chosen and cast out from the vault. Their fates out in the world, left to them. What they left with was all they could pack into their Vault-Tec issued rucksack; everything they put in deemed important by each individual Vaulter, along with a single weapon of their choice, issued to each individual, and 100 rounds for it.
Now, in this early Summer month, a new five are gathering what they can and preparing to make their way in a world completely unknown to them, or anyone else in the Vault.
Your Involvement
In this RP, you are one of the five Vault 66 Vaulters, elected to be expelled from the vault forever, never to return. Your fate when outside the vault: unknown. You’ve gathered all you’ve deemed necessary and important for survival out in the world, and been issued one weapon of your choice from the Vault armory, and 100 rounds for it.
All of us have gathered together at the door to the Vault, about to make our first steps into an unknown world. There to see us off is the Overseer, and whatever loved ones we have. The moment we step out, and the door closes behind us, we are alone with each other. Nobody else is there to hold our hands.
For this RP, I’m accepting only four (4) people, myself rounding out the five main characters. So I’m looking for people who can be dedicated enough. The first four might not be the four I pick, so don’t be afraid to post a CS if you’re interested, and think you can put time in to keep the RP going. This isn’t a typical squad-based RP, there is no lead member making all the group decisions and choices, all characters can have a say in what the group does. You’re free to do and go where you please, but we are a group of ignorant Vaulters, wandering too far from the group can bring unsavory consequences.
What kind of situations and people we’re introduced to as we go along, will vary in nature and direction. There is no fixed story plot, just that we’re all Vaulters fresh out of the underground, looking to survive.
Vault 66’s History
When the bombs fell that fateful day in October, those who took shelter in what was Vault 66, located in the western part of New York State, didn’t have a clue what they were getting into. Although it was much more desirable to live in the Vault, than out in an blown away world, the Vaulters soon learned of their conundrum. Nerve gas, able to kill everyone and every thing in the vault within a minute, the Vaulters soon learned from their first Overseer, that to keep the nerve gas from being released, they’d have to keep the population of the vault to no higher than 200. Any higher, and the nerve gas would be released.
So to keep as many people as they could, the Overseer, and the Overseer after him, created an election. It was formed to elect five random Vaulters, to be expelled from the vault forever. Everyone deemed eligible, had their name put onto the voting ballot. A voter would vote for the five they thought should be cast out, and whoever the top five were on the final readout, were the five to be left.
Surprisingly this worked for those in the vault. Every time the population was close to 200, an election was called and the Vaulters of Vault 66, would go to the polls to vote. But on the tenth election, a surprise hit the entire vault.
The Overseer, who’d been in control since the vault was sealed, had been positioned as the second most voted for, in the top five. This led to a bit of chaos, the other Vaulters unsure of what to do without an Overseer. Some called for a redo, or a recount. Most just asked the Overseer to choose a replacement. The day the five were due to leave, the Overseer, still as one of the five, chose his replacement for a new Overseer. Everything the replacement Overseer would need, was given over, and the first Overseer and those with him were never heard of again.
But again, a year and a half later, the Overseer put to replace the first one, was the most voted for in the top five. She was left, as her predecessor was, to choose another person to take control as Overseer. It was done, and she with the other’s voted, were never heard of again.
It went on like this for years, with three more Overseers over time, being voted out of Vault 66. It became routine, and the threat of nerve gas being released became less and less.
One particular thing that is unique to Vault 66 inhabitants, is that instead of having all been issued a Pip-boy 3000, they were given the earlier, more compact and lighter to carry, Pip-boy 2000 handheld. The cause being something of a shortage of Pip-boy 3000s. Or at least that’s what the old manifest for them indicated.

All of whom are welcome to join again though I'd prefer with different characters.
I'm going to try to take things in the general direction that Dr. Strangelove did two years ago. If he shows up I'll gladly give up my GM spot and step aside, and be grateful for it miss that that guy. If I get interest and anyone has input on areas they want us to visit or things to encounter PM me so those things can be a surprise for the other posters.
Also, I just want to make it clear to anyone who wants to join: The settlements and places we visit, are small and few in population numbers. No more than 40 really. It's still relatively early in the Fallout timeline. Even places like Shady Sands haven't been founded in California, so the towns and settlements, and that's really all they'll be, are small. Just like us, they're trying to scraqe by with what they can get.
In the RP, I, and only I, will be the keeper of the time. The time frame I put at the beginning of my posts, is the time we all adhere to. No one else is to post time. This will help so nobody jumps to anything further, while the rest of us are still back in the time frame I posted. Also, to make it easy on us all in our opening posts, the time in which our character's get to the door to leave, will be in the order of people's posts. So to make it clear, I post first so my character will be the first to get to the door. Whoever posts after me, will be the second person to get there. Third, is after them, etc. The last person to post getting to the door, is the character to get there last of the others. Until EVERYONE has posted their opening posts, I ask that those who've already posted their openings, hold off posting until the last person. After that, you're all free to post in whatever order you like.
So to reiterate, the order in which we post our opening posts, is the order to who of our character's get there when, whether after or before other people's characters. All will be after mine. Those who post their opening posts, and others have yet to, are not to post until those others have posted. When everyone's posted their openings, you're free to post as much as you like in any order.
