Something funny I've noticed about this forums posters..

There's something funny/weird/quarky I've noticed about this forum and its posters, and that's the fact that people here seem to be very judgmental against things they don't like as if this fraction of a sliver of the internet holds authority on what actually matters in the world. It's honestly quite cute, in a weird kind of way.

An opinion is subjective, it varies with the person and their personal experiences. So you can't really say anything about anything as a definitive statement.

You could say "no one likes Justin Bieber!" yet tens of millions of billions of screaming girls run at you wanting to destroy your soul for the blasphemy you just uttered.

See? Everything is subjective. This forum in particular has a bad case of thinking that certain things svck really badly even though their vastly and wildly popular and enjoyable to literally millions of people. The show Lost? Hugely successful, but according to this forum, it was the worst show ever. The game "World of Warcraft"? Hugely successful, the most popular MMO to ever be created, holding a title of most subscribers (12 MILLION people at its peak) for literally 8 years, yet according to *everyone* on this forum, it's apparently the most horrendous video game ever created, it's awful, it svcks, and it has no replay value. Huh. Weird how that works?

According to the vast majority of this forum, things deserve no credit despite being hugely popular. I hear the argument so much here, and only here, that if something is popular, it's bad, and popularity does not denote quality. But then..you have to again look at what the definition of an opinion is. It's personal. If it doesn't apply to you, then that's fine, but it doesn't mean what you dislike is definitively bad. I just get hung up on that when people post here so hatefully against something that is EXTREMELY POPULAR and successful. Like movies, sports, certain games, MMO's, anything.

"Uh, Cher svcks. She literally is awful. She's popular, but who cares, that means nothing. The quality of her music is awful."

....yes, despite her selling, what, 400 million records? She must be awful. o_O I just do not get that mindset, at all. Am I weird for being so third party about this stuff? I mean, sure, I don't like certain things. I hate the show "Grey's Anatomy". Worst show I've ever seen. And I did give it a chance, few seasons. Hate it.

But that doesn't discredit the fame of the show, or the quality, because obviously it's extremely popular, and I can respect that. People like it. I get it. That's..fine? I mean, isn't that supposed to be fine..?

So, I guess my question/point here is..why everybody so uptight? Why you gotta hate on things so much? If you don't like something, that's fine, it doesn't fit your personality, which is literally all it is, biologically. Doesn't suit you. That's fine. But why the hostility towards those things? It's uncalled for...

Looks like you just discovered that people have opinions on the internet. And that shock and horror, some people may not be entirely rational in those opinions.

This is how the internet works. Always has, and probably always will. This forum is not unique in any way regarding internet opinions.

Well, I can safely say I've never encountered this on any of the other forums i frequent, which are numerous. I'm not new to the internet. :P

This place in particular has the most irrational posters when it comes to things they don't like. I mean, there are probably other places that can be worse, but I'm not apart of those communities.

Kraft Macaroni and cheese, and McDonalds are very popular but does that make it good food?

This place is full of hipsters. But I was one of the first.

Spoiler
It's definitely not exclusive to this forum, yo.

I'm not saying it's exclusive to this forum; I'm saying this forum is guilty. If we aren't teachable, we are for the chopping block.

Most people have some degree of hostility toward things that they personally don't like, but they are much more likely to express that dislike on the internet.

And honestly you're being sort of smug and judgmental yourself just by making this post, y'know. So I guess you fit right in with us!

I guess because religion and politics are off-limits here, Justin Bieber and Cher are the logical alternatives.

Yes. This is the only place on the internet where elitism exists.

So what? It's okay when YOU hate something popular, but not when other people hate things that YOU like that are popular? Because that's the only feel I get from "How can something popular be bad? By the way Gray's Anatomy is the worst show i've seen".

I hope the irony of lecturing people on not being so rude by making a thread taking a dump on everyone isn't lost on you.

I'm picking up a serious STOP DISLIKING THINGS I LIKE vibe here.
