Error: "Failed to Initialize Renederer"

Post » Thu May 29, 2014 9:43 pm

I have been playing skyrim on PC forever, I have 100+ hours on it, and then all of the sudden, I got a windows update, and a graphics card update, I installed both of them and restarted my PC, now whenever I try to launch Skyrim (through Steam or SKSE launcher) it says: "Failed to initialize renderer. Your display doesn't support the selected resolution. Please set a different resolution in Skyrim's Launcher under 'Display Settings'." I have changed the resolution of my game to my native resolution. (1920x1080) and it still says that, I also tried windowed mode and that doesn't work. Please help, and thanks for any help in advance!

Graphics card info:

My card is a Nvidia 630 with driver version GeForce 337.88 (most recent at time of post)

Just delete the SkyrimPrefs.ini file you'll find in My documents/My Games/Skyrim and launch the game.

What was your Windows update ????

Go here: Control Panel -> Windows Update -> View update history (on the left side)

What's the first in the list ???

-----------------------

About your Drivers...

Uninstall your drivers through Control Panel -> Program and Features -> Uninstall anything that begins with NVIDIA and the green symbol. (You know what i mean...)

Download CCleaner from here: http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner - and after installation hit Registry (left - second choice) -> Scan for Issues / Fix selected Issues

Now, download your drivers from:

here: http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/75991 (64 Bit)

OR

here: http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/75996 (32Bit)

Select Installation Options Custom (Advanced)

Install only (check) Graphics Drivers, HD audio drivers, and PhysX System Software. (Nothing more. So no 3D Vision related, Nvidia Geforce Experience)

(Click (check) on Perform a clean installation, even if you have done the uninstallation procedure earlier.)

---------------

After your installation is finished, delete your skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini from this folder. ( C: \ Users \ [ Your Name] \ Documents \ My Games \ skyrim )

Before you start your game, verify your game cache files. ( https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335 )

Well, as the driver concerns, i installed it after i read your post. (the 337.88 driver)

I played for half an hour, game plays good, but i don't see any difference from the older 335.23

I must test the new one a bit more tomorrow, the graphics seems to me, a little worse as with the older ones. (with the same Control panel configuration)

---------

btw i use 8.1 64 bit too.
