Hello everyone!
This thread is merely an interest-check for an RP that'll trigger in a distant future, to see if the forum is even interested at all in something like this!
The basic idea:
This RP may clash a bit with a another existing RP: Of Princes and Power. However, this RP is an experiment into boardgame-type elements added to an RP.
This will be a faction vs faction (6 factions in total) war-RP, where you as the player control a character at a council with the other players. This council lets you discuss everything going on in the world, with other players, and serves as neutral ground for everyone. In addition to this character, you'll have 7 heroes at your disposal. These heroes fight in your wars, giving first-hand perspective on the battles that happen all around cyrodiil. The council sits at the heart of Cyrodiil, sending commands with ravens, troops and magic.
At the base of it all will be the Game of Thrones boardgame. Here's a 3 minute quick intro to what it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RD259mV6N5M
I will have a physical copy of the game and update with pictures whenever it's required.
More specific idea:
(You'll need to understand the game of thrones boardgame to understand this RP).
In the game of thrones boardgame, there's a lot of alliance and alliance-breaking. This would naturally be a part of this RP as well. You can openly chat with other players for free in the RP-thread, but can also choose to send PM's, which will cost 1 power token per PM. Power tokens are received throughout the game, but don't come in large number. They are also used for many, many other things and should be used wisely.
In the game of thrones boardgame, you have 7 generic heroes of the factions in that game. These heroes will be replaced by your own faction heroes, and indeed, the whole faction in the GoT game is replaced by your TES faction. The boardgame requires a lot of micromanagement, and requires everyone to be available instantly. This will naturally not be the case online, so we'll have to change the rules to fit a forum environment.
In the boardgame, you give hidden orders to your existing troops, and this will be done in this RP through PM's to me. However, in the boardgame you can later see what the other put out and change your plans a bit... Sadly, to make this work realistically, we'll have to skip that part. Instead, when you give an order, you also give a set mission for that order. For example, a march order must also come with an assigned target area to march to. Easy enough. The defend order doesn't actually need any extra, as it's a "passive" order. The consolidate power order requires you to either get power tokens, or create units, whichever you prefer. This must be said in the PM when you place the order. Then we also have raid orders and support orders. You can flag any number of other factions, through PM's, to be in alliance with you. This means any raid order you have cannot in any way be targeted on an allianced faction, and you will always support yourself firsthand in a combat with your support orders, but if you aren't in the combat, you'll support an allianced faction, determined by a scale from 1 to 5 that you PM to me. If a faction isn't allianced with you, you'll never support them in a combat. You can also choose to add a faction to your enemy list, which makes all your raid orders target that player specifically, and all support orders available to help other factions in combat.
The reason everything must be predetermined is so I can, once I have all orders, simply play it all out and update the map for you. Once that is done, automatically by me, you can continue to focus on the RP and all the writing. I'll simplify the game, and remove micromanagement, to make everything faster and smoother. This means you'll have less control over your units than in the physical version of the boardgame, but at the the same time, can focus on actually RP:ing it all.
A couple of more simplified things: For each available hero you have, you choose a unit. If that unit gets into combat, his or her abilities will be applied to the combat. Note that a unit supporting will not give hero bonuses, only an attacking or defending unit with a hero attached to it will trigger the bonus. The bonus ranges from passive strength boost, to different special-effects. If a hero is placed on the board, which you don't have to do if you don't want to, then he will have "summoning sickness" the next turn. (this is a change from the physical boardgame, to simplify combat even more). A hero will remain on a unit for 1 combat only, and will then be removed from that unit. Choose wisely where you place your heroes in the give-orders-phase, and don't spam your best heroes: You might need them the next turn more!
Now that the basic idea and a bit more detailed idea is out there, do you have any questions? Something unclear?
Is this something that interests anyone? Voice your interest: It doesn't tie you into the game at all, as this will probably happen in 2-3 months, not now at all!
Edit: This RP may or may not cross between an RP and a forum game, and as of such is still a questionmark if it's allowed on these forums or not. Stay tuned for more updates on that shortly!
Edit2: As long as it's 110% TES, this RP has go green light.
