Trying new restuarants

Post » Sun Jun 01, 2014 1:50 pm

I've been married almost 24 years. One thing that both my wife and myself have enjoyed doing over the last 2 decades is trying new places to eat that we have never been to before.

How about you good people? Do you enjoy trying new restuarants or do you stick with the tried and true?

Both. If I'm by myself I will almost always try a new place. If I am with someone I will generally steer them to a place I know and have a high degree of confidence in.

I will try any kind of food once..

when a new restaurant opens up, or one goes through drastic management changes to the point they replace every employee, I make sure to go sample their menu..

what I really love though is different cultural cuisines.. I am fortunate enough as this is both a provincial capital as well as a university town that we have a lot of restaurants that focus on different cultural cuisines..
and I always try numerous different foods everytime i go somewhere on vacation

I love trying out new restaurants. Unfortunately, these days I'm so broke that I can't afford to eat at them.

Never hurts trying something different. You might be missing something really tasty.

I've all but abandoned dining away from home. (I suspect my next restaurant meal might well be when my brother and I eat lunch at a local buffet Thanksgiving day.) But during my many years as a frequent diner out I embraced both philosophies. I did indeed enjoy sampling new eateries. But when I discovered a restaurant whose combination of food quality, breadth of menu, atmosphere and pricing seemed better than its competitors I tended to spend most of my time there. I'd have one or two such restaurants in the categories that most appealed to me ... Italian, Chinese, Mexican and so on ... and rotate between them.

I was stationed in Southern California a good many years. Lots of great eateries to choose from there. It spoiled me. Nothing where I live now comes close. Just as well. Less temptation.

Lately it's the tried and true, until they become meh. Sometimes it takes along time, sometimes it's the 2nd or 3rd time going there. 2 bad experiences and then usually that's it for them. Will give them a 2nd chance on the first bad experience but not the 2nd in a row.

I just want to know why, where I live, it seems all the local restaurants svck. I mean there seems to be no care or patin for serving food at an expensive price. Well for me it's expensive, for others I guess not. But to spend $80+ for a family dinner to be bad leaves a very bad taste in our mouth. (no pun intended).

Will try new places but with so many bad experiences as of late, it's just better to stay home.

I was introduced to some new restaurants last year, in a town not far from my family's current house.. unfortunately, one of them ended up closing down and they also had one of my favorite desserts. There was another one we had been going to at that time, but we found a replacement for the one that closed down.. we didn't say in the area for too much longer after that, and that's when we moved into our current house.

I'm glad we left the place when we did though, because it was continually going downhill (aside from businesses closing down).. the restaurant in question was a nice looking place, but their menu did not have a lot of variety on it and they only had 3 other desserts. Other than that, they likely had spent too much money decorating the place and didn't have anymore to actually stay in business and attract people.. I haven't been to any new type of restaurants since.

I found out I loved Charlies when I tried it out. It's a place where you get steak subs and other steak related foods. I love finding new restaurants.

The last new restaurant experience that I personally had was when a buddy of mine insisted I eat Indian Food with him. The lamb curry was pretty good, but the Mango Lassi was perhaps the most delicious thing I've ever drank in my life.

Beyond that, far to poor to eat out, so the once a year me and my wife go out to eat for our anniversary, we stick with what we know we like, which is T.G.I.Fridays. It's not worth the possible waste of $40-$50 to try out a new place on the one night a year we get to eat out.

when i am doing well finaincially i generally go out to eat a lot. and usually try out any place that i haven't before in the town i live in.

i've eaten nearly every where, where i live, excluding donut shops and a few mexican food trucks of poor quality.

generally i end up going to the same places as i like consistency

Tried and true. I pretty much only eat at two restaurants, my favorite pizzeria and my favorite Chinese restaurant. I pretty much only go to new places when someone else makes me, or when there's an event there.

Honestly the only "restaurants" I patronize are the cheapest take-out places. So... I know where you can get the cheapest kung pao chicken, but I'm not really motivated to try a variety of places if it'll cost me a lot.
