Unlocked FPS

Okay, So we got Wolfenstein: TNO now and it was locked to 60 fps. IMO that's fine considering it was a pure single player experience.

Now that the DooM beta coming soon, whenever that might be. I want to urge the devs to unlock the FPS on the PC for multiplayer.

You can stay with locked FPS in single player, I could care less about that. BUT in Multiplayer we NEED unlocked FPS.

I think a lot of people are going to look at the next DooM MP as their replacement or alternative to Quake Live and other skill based shooters. If you lock the FPS you will drive most of that consumer base away and prevent a pro-community from forming around this game.

This is DooM and you can make it the next Quake 3 or Counter-Strike. Please look at every aspect of competitive gaming and make your decisions. There is a big market for it and gamers are eagerly awaiting id software to introduce the next generation of Multiplayer gaming.

Not someone who plays a lot of competitive shooters, but wouldn't a capped frame rate provide balance across different PC platforms? If one person spends coin on better hardware to get higher frame rates, then they might have an advantage over someone who does not have the disposable resources to build an uber rig. Also, if they are going to include Consoles in the same instances as PC players, then this frame rate cap would be necessary to achieve that balance.

Yep. I know it's awesome to feel the game above 60, but playing above that is literally paying to win (if you're good)

Not applicable to consoles and better hardware is not the only option. Most competitive player reduce all settings to nothing via console commands to achieve really high stable framerates on any machine.

I had taken this screenshot a long time ago http://imgur.com/xxPiKUJ

Top image is pretty much how pro-players play. Some even remove the gun models and use minimalist huds.

Consoles need to be locked due to the nature of the system and I doubt they will do cross play between PC and console due to the influence it might have on the design/testing of the game.

Hence it's not just about an uncapped FPS it's also about adding a slew of options so that anyone can play the way they want. People who don't care about the edge pro settings give, will enjoy the graphics and the gameplay. People who want the competitive edge will adjust settings to the way they want.

Not to mention multiplayer game lobbies usually have a hardcoe server or ranking or some similar setting to separate the competitive players from the casual ones. This helps in everyone getting the experience they want.

I just want to start this conversation early so that before we hit beta the devs have taken all these things we talk about into consideration. It will really help in both sides not being disappointed later when the game launches.

I don't even know if Doom 4 will be an eSport title and I don't know if Id really wants that mentality for Doom. Doom did have its tournaments and pro players back then, but it's really not "eSport driven" compared to Quake or UT. Also Id even admit that Doom has always been more of a single player franchise at heart while Quake will please the multiplayer folks. I do have a feeling that it will be fun to play and enjoyable akin to Titanfall, but I don't think they should make Doom 4 be the shooter to bring back arena shooters or make it eSport driven. Quake should do that. But we shall see in the future and see how things are going.

Potentially but the more bethesda sits on it's butt thinking about getting serious with competitive multiplayer shooters the market will get taken over by other games. Battlecry seems like a step in the right direction but I think we all know that there is a huge void in the arena multiplayer shooter that needs to be filled up. Most games that say they can do what quake or unreal did are coming and going and are mostly forgettable.

They cannot launch another single player focused id franchise in a row. People will not take that as an answer this time around.
