The Forest

I haven't seen another thread on this, so I decided to create one. Surprisingly, I hadn't heard about this game until yesterday, but it looks pretty cool. It's an open-world survival-horror video game currently available under Steam Greenlight. For those of you who don't know what that is, it's a program where people can buy the game through Steam while it's still in development. The purchase covers the entire development of the game, including the final release.

So, I'm wondering whether or not anyone here has played the game or is planning on getting it. There will be a coop feature, though it hasn't been implemented yet. I'm really considering getting it, but wanted to hear some feedback first.

Oh, and this isn't an anti-Steam/Valve thread. If you want to [censored] about them, there's a perfectly good Steam/DRM discussion where people will be more than happy to debate you.

I've watched several Forest YouTube Let's Play episodes. Like what I've seen. As to my buying it, who knows? I don't buy games very often any more. Last one I acquired was Banished earlier this year, which I found an excellent short term to medium term game but not, for me, a game for the long hall. Before that it was Minecraft and Skyrim in 2012. Before that it was Oblivion in 2009. Minecraft and Oblivion, along with Daggerfall which I bought when it was new and shiny, are the games I still play with regularity. For me The Forest will have to prove it can provide many months, preferably years, of enjoyment before I take the plunge. But again, it seems quite an intriguing title.

I don't PC game (Outdated tower), but I recently read an article on Kotaku about The Forest and I was VERY impressed and, if I recall, it's only a Pre-Alpha game so the fact it's so early in development and I'm intrigued given how picky with games I am, this is a very high compliment that it so easily one my interest.

The game is only $15 at this point, and developers usually say that the game gets more expensive as development progresses. So honestly, $15 isn't too much skin off my nose; it looks like I'll be able to get at least $15 worth of enjoyment out of the game from the videos I've seen.
