Getting Back in shape

Post » Tue Jun 10, 2014 10:25 am

With a new job on the horizon, and seeing an old friend in a month, I'm going to be getting back in shape. I've got the ab and arm work set in stone, but other than running, I have no idea on leg work, but I'll find a way.

This is gonna be fun.

I work at the YMCA as a fitness counselor.

The best leg workouts are squats and lunges. Both can be done at home with no equipment.

I have also recently decided to get back into shape, as my "highschool crush" is moving back into town, and I haven't seen her since graduations several years back..

if you want to just lose weight, walking helps immensely.. every other day I go for a walk up the large hill in town, across the shopping district, back down the hill and then across town to get back home..

all and all its probably around a 6 km walk I do every other day.. but I have already lost 8 pounds, and i've only been doing it a few weeks..

M'aiq suggests eating tons of sweetrolls...

M'aiq suggests doing lunges, squats, and running on a treadmill with a plunger that has a twinkie hanging from it and place it on your head. ;)

If possible swimming is one of the best exercises you can do as it takes muscles from all over you body to stay afloat, buoyant, and moving through the water.

If you're looking to strictly lose weight and fat, the best thing to do is to think about your body in this way:

Food = fuel

Your body = an engine

The more fuel you put in your body, the more calories you must burn. The only way to lose weight is to consume less calories than your body burns. This is a fundamental fact of biology and science. Your body burns calories throughout the day, and everyone has a set number of calories that you do burn.

Say a persons BMI calls for 2500 calories. That means that your body burns 2500 calories to just sustain it self at your current weight in a 24 hour period if you were to lay perfectly still in a bed all day. So, if you want to lose weight, you have to eat less than 2500 calories, resulting in a caloric deficit. It's quite simple.

Although on that same note, to build muscle you'll need to consume a lot more protein than you usually would.

Leg work is easy, all you need are squats. http://convict-conditioning.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/progressions.jpg has a pretty good squat progression you can use if you don't want to use weights. Step one and seven are completely useless though, I'd definitely skip those. Four and eight aren't particularly useful either. The rest is great.

I just noticed that you only mentioned doing abs and arms. Don't forget to do exercises for your upper back, lower back, chest, shoulders, traps etc.

I second this. Though I prefer to add weights into the equation as well, but that's my personal preference and it's not required.

I suggest you run on stairs in your home if have any.(Make sure the staircase is long and do it for at least 20 minutes) and another piece of advice I can give is to simply go find elliptical and have at it.

This is great news! I've been running for a few months and I definitely feel difference.

The only advice I can give you is just don't give up. :)
