I remember long ago when the game first came out, popular rumor was you could join the Raiders if you were evil enough and I never got around to playing an evil character. Was this just a farce or is there a legitimate way to walk amongst the Raiders and Talon Company Mercs without being attacked? I know it would somewhat skew gameplay, but I wanted to do an evil character and roleplay it from a Raider or Merc standpoint.

If this is possible via a mod, please list which one(s) I would need.

I played an evil character once, and as far as I know, you can't join with the Raiders or Talon Company, they just won't actively hunt you down. Granted, I only played Fallout 3 for the first time a couple months ago, but I think I've explored enough to figure you can't join em.
